Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Nissan Rogue, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Wipers and visibility35No crashes

Rear hatch glass shatters on its own, often with a loud pop. It happens while the car sits parked, at startup, or just after a door closes. Cold weather, temperature swings and use of the rear defroster come up again and again. Some windows crack around the edges first, then cave in and scatter tempered shards across the cargo area. Dealers often decline warranty coverage, leaving owners to go through insurance. Until the glass is replaced, the driver has no view out the back.

Rear windshield shatters with no impact, both while parked and while driving at 55 mph. At speed it starts with an abnormal popping sound, and in one report the defroster was off. Glass specialists tell owners that several similar vehicles have failed the same way. Dealers tend to send owners to their insurance company because the VIN is not under recall. Manufacturer cases get opened, but none of these reports ends with help from the dealer. One failure came at about 9,000 miles.

  • Body and structure5No crashes

Rear hatch glass bursts with no impact or warning, sometimes the moment the driver's door closes and sometimes in cold weather. Owners raise concerns about anyone riding in the back seat. Separately, the hands-free liftgate, triggered by a sensor under the rear bumper, closes onto people's heads and bodies while they load cargo. In one case the dealer could not turn the feature off, the tested part checked out fine, and the problem stayed unresolved.

  • Electrical4No crashes

An engine compartment fire near the battery is reported at about 12,000 miles. No dash warnings came before it, and the cause was still under investigation. Other reports describe the power liftgate lowering on its own with only a brief beep and taking real force to stop, which led to repeat dealer visits. Intermittent faults include a rear camera that flickers or goes black in reverse, blind spot and lane departure malfunctions, a seat belt light that stays on, and AM/FM radio dropouts. Dealers often cannot reproduce them.

  • Engine3No crashes

An "Engine Malfunction Power Reduced Service Now" warning appears in the first few hundred miles. In one case the car also jerks, shakes and accelerates on its own, and the dealer replaces the engine control module. Another car rattles, barely moves, smells of burnt rubber and needs a tow at 1,509 miles. The dealer blames a coil. A separate report says the drain plug on the plastic oil pan can strip, so the dealer pumps oil out from the top, which makes oil changes slow.

At intersection car started rattling when I accelerated and would barely go and engine light came on. Had to be towed to dealer. They are saying it is just a coil. The dealership of Royal Nissan in Baton Rouge took two and a half hours to do an oil change. When I asked them why they said it was a known problem that my vehicles engine oil plug would strip if they tried to drain it that way and that it had to be pumped from the top. Recalls to confirm (1)

Recall repairs are free at any Nissan dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Rogue and 2025 INFINITI QX80 vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility.".

Risk: The loss of the rearview camera image while in reverse can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: The in-vehicle infotainment software will be updated by an over-the-air (OTA) software update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 2, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or INFINITI's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R24B3 and R24B4.
