Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Buick Envision, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Brakes3No crashes

Sudden braking problems at highway speed are the most serious reports here. One complaint describes an unexpected downshift, a speed-limit warning, "service transmission" and "service brakes" messages, and then complete brake failure. Another describes the car braking hard on its own with cruise control set, dropping speed sharply before speeding back up. Both carry a clear crash risk. A milder complaint is brake squeal at about 10,000 miles that continues even after the brakes pass inspection. Only 3 complaints are on file, so no broad pattern is visible yet.

  • Electrical3No crashes

Intermittent power and display faults make up the electrical reports. One symptom is a loud crackling noise from the radio that also comes through the turn signal lever and ignition button, then goes away after a restart. The dash and radio can also go black while driving, sometimes for minutes, which removes the speedometer, fuel level, and other safety information. A parasitic battery drain can leave the car unable to start, with several warning lights on. Dealers have trouble finding the cause and decline repairs when the fault is not happening during the visit.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Envision owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Brakes
My 2025 Buick Envision with 10,000 miles on it has squeaky brakes. My previous 2023 Envision had the same problem, Brakes check out ok, but squeak persists.

Filed with NHTSA, February 2026

Brakes
I was driving ~72 MPH on the interstate and my car suddenly downshifted and the dash read “Speed limited to 62 MPH”. I took the nearest off ramp and the brakes completely failed. The dash initially read “service transmission” and “service breaks”. After restarting the Buick Envision, the MyBuick App diagnostics stated “service breaks” only. The car was towed to the dealership this date. I have not heard from them on what has caused the brake failure yet.

Filed with NHTSA, June 2026

Electrical
While driving the dash and radio randomly turn off. Sometimes staying black for minutes others until you stop the car and walk away for several minutes. Leaving you without a way to tell how fast you are going, or any other safety information, fuel level or more.

Filed with NHTSA, April 2026
