Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Buick Envision, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical3No crashes

The brakes apply hard on their own with no obstacle nearby. Reports describe this at speeds over 45 miles an hour in town and on open roads, and also while backing up in the dark. Collision warning lights come on for front, side and rear hits when no cars are present, and the car may surge forward after the brakes lock. These events have caused 2 injuries. A separate report describes all exterior lights, the center screen and the digital gauges going black at night while the driver changed the automatic high-beam setting, followed by a minor roadside collision. Repeat dealer visits have not fixed the braking problem.

  • Engine3No crashes

Oil disappears between changes. The dipstick reads low or shows no oil at all, and owners find the engine 2 to 3 quarts low around the first oil change, between 5000 and 7500 miles. The loss continues after topping off, often more than a quart within the next 1000 to 2000 miles. Dealers respond with an oil consumption test that takes thousands of miles, and some first report nothing wrong. A dealer described replacing a valve as the first fix, with engine replacement as the next step. Running this low on oil puts the engine at risk.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Envision owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Engine
The vehicle was taken in for the oil level not registering on the dip stick 5235 miles on the odometer, they said it was 2 quart oils low. They said they would do an oil consumption test and to bringv it back in 2000 miles. We took it back with an odometer reading of 7451 and it was again 2 quarts oils low. There is an oil consumption issue on this vehicle.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Buick Envision vehicles. The vehicles are missing the label that states the tire size, pressure, and the loading information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims.".

Risk: Missing tire and load rating information may result in driving with improperly inflated tires or an overloaded vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install the label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 1, 2024. Owners may contact Buick Customer Service at 800-521-7300.
