Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Nissan Sentra, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Wheels and tires41 crash

A wheel rim cracks completely in half at interstate speed without hitting anything. The tire blows and the car spins out, which makes this the 1 crash-related report among the 2 complaints. The other filing lists several unrelated problems. Warped rotors make the car shake under braking, a start stop idle fault warning appears, and the door locks do not open from the button. Two filings are not enough to show a repeat pattern. The cracked rim still carries a clear risk of losing control.

The factory tires cause vibration and wobble early in the car's life. On one car the rear tires go out of round. The vibration starts around 5600 miles and gets much worse above 50 mph after highway driving. On another car with 17-inch wheels, the car wobbles hard on grooved concrete interstates. The driver feels close to losing control and has to slow down a lot. Both cars ran original-equipment Firestone FT140 or Michelin Primacy A/S tires. A tire store that only sells a brand may not handle its warranty claims.

  • Transmission2No crashes

The engine shuts off without warning in traffic and all power goes with it. The dash screen goes black and the hazard lights stop working, so the driver cannot warn other cars. A second report describes a Malfunction Indicator Light for an engine and emissions fault at low mileage. That repair meant replacing the engine wiring harness and pulling and reinstalling the engine and transaxle. One car had about 1500 miles when its problems began. Dealers struggle to reproduce the stalling or find the cause, even after the car is towed in.
