Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Nissan Armada, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical5No crashes

The battery drains for no clear reason, leaving the SUV hard to start or dead, sometimes with the family stranded. Replacement batteries go flat again within months. Dealers often can't reproduce the drain or find a fault. A separate pattern has the dashboard, infotainment and climate screens going blank, or every warning light coming on while driving. One owner reports repeat dealer visits and being told to wait for a software update. Another report links check engine and collision warning lights to a wiring harness problem that continued after parts were replaced.

  • Automatic emergency braking21 crash

The system fails in two opposite ways. In one report, neither the collision warning nor emergency braking reacts when the car ahead stops short, and the result is a crash with 3 injuries. In another, the brakes slam on with no hazard ahead, bringing the truck to a full stop near a railroad track with traffic behind. That owner says it has happened twice and nearly caused a rear-end collision. Only 2 complaints are on file, but both describe crash risk.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Armada owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
Battery drain happens and vehicle Will be hard to start or not start at all. New battery was installed and 4 months later, same issue. It has been taken into dealership multiple times and they can never recreate the issue and have found nothing wrong with the vehicle to repair. This has caused wife and kids to be stranded because vehicle won’t start. No warning lights, nothing that the dealership found to cause issue.

Filed with NHTSA, October 2025

Electrical
Check engine light and collision lights come on at start of vehicle due to the wiring harness issue. The throttle body and EMC have been replaced. This is a huge safety concern as it effects the engine and the operation of the vehicle. The problem continues even after the dealer has confirmed and reproduced the issue.

Filed with NHTSA, June 2026

Automatic emergency brakingCrash reported
The car in front of me stopped short and neither the Collision Warning or Emergency Braking activated or alerted at all, making no attempt to stop the vehicle, resulting in a collision.

Filed with NHTSA, November 2023

Automatic emergency braking
I was approaching a railroad track, and my truck slammed on brakes coming to a complete stop. With other cars behind me twice, this is the second time that has happened i was almost hit in the back

Recalls to confirm (1)

Recall repairs are free at any Nissan dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 26V455000EquipmentJul 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020-2026 Nissan Armada, 2011-2013 Infiniti QX56, and 2014-2027 QX80 vehicles equipped with 22" wheels. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims.".

Risk: An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install new labels, free of charge. Additionally, Nissan will mail replacement labels to owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 4, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R26B1 and R26B2. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 16, 2026.
