Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2023 Nissan Armada, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Transmission21 crash

Two separate failures appear in a small set of reports. In one, the dash and infotainment screen go black with the engine running. The vehicle then rolls while in Park, the brake pedal sinks to the floor, and the shifter stays locked in Park until the car is shut off and restarted. That report involves a minor crash. The other describes the transmission failing during sustained freeway driving in extreme heat, on a vehicle bought used. The dealer is repairing it. No mileage pattern shows up.

  • Wipers and visibility2No crashes

The sunroof glass shatters without warning, with a loud bang like a gunshot, while the vehicle sits parked. Reports describe no earlier damage or warning signs. Nobody is hurt in these cases, but filers point to the risk of glass falling on people inside or on other traffic if it happens at speed. A shattered roof leaves the vehicle open to weather and break-ins and unsafe to drive until it is fixed. The repairs are still waiting on dealer inspection and a reply from Nissan.

In owners' own words

Transmission
Bought vehicle used from dealer so it must have been damaged by previous owner. In less than 1 hour driving in freeway over 60mph in extreme outside heat of 107F, the transmission went out. It was returned to the dealer and dealer is fixing the problems.

Recalls to confirm (1)

Recall repairs are free at any Nissan dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 26V455000EquipmentJul 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020-2026 Nissan Armada, 2011-2013 Infiniti QX56, and 2014-2027 QX80 vehicles equipped with 22" wheels. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims.".

Risk: An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install new labels, free of charge. Additionally, Nissan will mail replacement labels to owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 4, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R26B1 and R26B2. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 16, 2026.
