Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Ask for service records and look for engine fault codes, towing, or engine repairs.
  • Have a shop scan for stored engine codes before you buy, even if no warning lights are on.
  • Hold the brake at a stop with the engine running and confirm the pedal stays firm without sinking or going rock-hard.

Which Armada is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Nissan Armada. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating

  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Armada that averages well under the EPA 17 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Nissan Armada, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical71 crash

The digital instrument cluster goes black while driving, taking out the speedometer, odometer, turn signal indicators, and warning lights. The center screen can fail too, which cuts off climate control, radio, the backup camera, collision alerts, and the garage door opener. Restarting the engine often does not bring the screens back, and dealers report no fix. Separate reports describe a wireless charging pad that overheats phones until they shut down, which owners see as a fire risk. The one crash-related report is about a deer strike and a replacement bumper Nissan cannot supply.

  • Airbags21 crash

Parts shortages are the main theme here. In one case the airbag system was left inoperable because a front passenger seat cushion frame assembly was on back order, and Nissan's case manager offered no acceptable fix in the meantime. The other report is crash-related and describes brakes rather than airbags. The owner says that with adaptive cruise control on, the SUV failed to slow in a rear-end collision even with the brake pedal pressed fully, and that no skid marks were left.

  • Transmission2No crashes

Two loss-of-throttle failures appear. In one, the accelerator pedal assembly breaks off its mount in traffic with no warning, and the SUV cannot be moved. In the other, the vehicle won't accelerate when pulling away from a stop or making a turn. It acts stuck in first gear, revs loudly, and tops out around 15-20 mph, which makes crossing oncoming traffic dangerous. Turning the engine off and on, or shifting to park and back to drive, clears the problem until it happens again.

Where the 2025 fits in the Armada's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2025 is the first model year of the Armada's third generation (2025 on). First years of a redesign often carry teething problems that Nissan fixes in later years, so the checks above matter more than usual.

Recalls to confirm (2)

Recall repairs are free at any Nissan dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 26V455000EquipmentJul 2026

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020-2026 Nissan Armada, 2011-2013 Infiniti QX56, and 2014-2027 QX80 vehicles equipped with 22" wheels. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the certification label is incorrect, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims.".

Risk: An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install new labels, free of charge. Additionally, Nissan will mail replacement labels to owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 4, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R26B1 and R26B2. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 16, 2026.

  2. 25V821000Backup cameraNov 2025

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2025 Murano, 2025-2026 Armada, and Infiniti QX80 vehicles. A software error may occur in the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system at vehicle startup, resulting in the rearview camera image not displaying when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility.".

Risk: A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: The IVI system software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 2, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25D6, R25D5, and R25D7. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning December 12, 2025.
