Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Wipers and visibility5No crashes

Windshields crack far too easily. Small stone chips spread into long cracks within hours to a couple of days, and one report describes the glass cracking with no impact at all. A chip that was repaired later grew into a crack nearly two feet long. A separate problem involves washer fluid leaking from the reservoir or pump near the front driver side tire whenever the rear washer runs, which can empty the bottle. Several of these reports name the Defender rather than this model.

  • Electrical4No crashes

The backup camera cuts out at random and shows "cameras not available" in reverse. Sometimes it happens several times a day, and a dealer repair did not fix it. In another report the vehicle died completely on the highway one month after purchase and then sat at the dealer during a buyback process. Other reports describe no warning when the key leaves the car and a wireless charging pad that overheats. Some of these complaints name other Range Rover models.

  • Steering3No crashes

Power steering assist cuts out suddenly while the transmission drops into neutral, which leaves the driver steering by hand with no propulsion. One case happened at about 30 mph and 5,400 miles, and the dealer suspected a failed DC-DC converter. A similar highway failure began with a yellow battery warning light. Separately, lane assist steers the vehicle on its own toward turn lanes, skid marks, and road markings at speed. Dealers have not resolved it, so the owner turned the system off.

  • Lane keeping2No crashes

Automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist switch themselves off for no clear reason. It happens repeatedly, at night, in clear weather, with nothing blocking the cameras or radar. Blind spot warning is also described as weak and slow, with no audible alert when the turn signal is on and no indicator in the head-up display. The blind spot report names the Discovery Sport rather than this model.

  • Transmission2No crashes

A failing DC converter brings up a battery warning. Within seconds the vehicle shifts to neutral, then park, and shuts off in traffic. It cannot be moved and must be towed. The replacement part is reported out of stock, possibly for months. A separate report describes a transfer case failure at 5,000 miles on a Defender 130, with a warning that continued driving could seize the unit and cause loss of control.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Range Rover Sport owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Wipers and visibility
Windshield washer fluid is leaking from the reservoir/pump near the front driver side tire when the rear window wash is activated. The bottle already became empty once. There shouldn't be any leaking to begin with but this is also a safety issue if you actually have to use the windshield wash while on the road and there is no fluid in the bottle because it leaked out.

Wipers and visibility
windshield, I cracked my 3rd windshield in 18 months and approx 7 windshields in 10 years. I replace this vehicle annually with the identical make and model range rover. The smallest stone chips the windshield and the chip turns into long cracks across the windshield within hours to a couple of days. I have alerted Land Rover to this.

Filed with NHTSA, July 2025

Electrical
Is this a flaw? I was driving with my wife, she had the key. I dropped her off and drove away about a mile. The car didn't say anything about the key not being present in the vehicle. Shouldn't it have said something about the key not being present? Seems like this is a computer/software flaw which should be investigated and updated.
