Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Lexus RX, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical5No crashes

The car loses all electrical power without warning and goes dark, with no lights, sounds, or response. Most reports trace this to a dead or weak 12-volt battery. In some cases it fails within the first 3 months or after only a few drives, and it can recur after a jump start. In at least one case the doors would not unlock from inside or outside, so people were trapped in the car or locked out of it. Separately, the instrument panel can go blank while driving. A dealer fixed that with a software update, and there was no recall or owner notice. No mileages are reported.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints RX owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
While driving, the instrument panel went blank. I believe it is not safe to drive with no instrumentation or knowledge of your vehicle or speed. The dealer confirmed it needed a software update and performed this yesterday. We were not advised of this needed update, no recall or no communication from the manufacturer. We should be advised when something this critical is needed.
Electrical
Car left us stranded 12 V battery completely dead had a lot of difficulty trying to get it started. The unfortunate part is I got rid of a 2023 Lexus RX 350 H for the exact same problem could not get resolved after installing five batteries. Now we’re going down this road again.
