Reported on other EV6 years with the same design

These years share the 2024's design and most of its parts, so their problems are the ones to look for on this car too.

2023 EV6

98 owner complaints
  • Electrical 56
  • Transmission 17
  • Fuel system 4

Worth adding to your 2024 checks

  • Have a Kia dealer confirm ICCU campaigns SC302, SC327 and SC273A are completed, with dates.
  • Ask for service records showing any ICCU replacement or repeated 12V battery replacements.
  • Have the 12V battery load-tested and check its age before buying.

2022 EV6

215 owner complaints
  • Electrical 133
  • Transmission 31
  • Body and structure 7

Worth adding to your 2024 checks

  • Run the VIN for open recalls and confirm ICCU campaigns, including SC327, appear in actual dealer service records.
  • Ask for records of any ICCU replacement or power-loss tow, since owners report repeat failures.
  • Plug into a Level 2 charger and confirm charging starts and runs without interruption or overheating messages.

Which EV6 is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2024 Kia EV6. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
ElectricAWD, RWD282–310 mi range
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 282–310 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Check the odometer against these mileages

Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.

  • Early inverter failure

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Kia EV6, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical15No crashes

Sudden loss of drive power is the main complaint. Most reports trace it to a failed ICCU. A "Check electric vehicle system" or "Stop vehicle and check power supply" warning appears, the car drops into limp mode, then dies, sometimes in a traffic lane with a nearly full battery. Several owners hear a pop first. One fire report describes a charred inverter at 616 miles. Dead 12V batteries, doors that will not open, and cars that cannot be shifted to neutral for towing also recur. Failures continue after the recall software update, and repairs can take weeks.

  • Transmission8No crashes

Drive power cuts out after a pop from under the car or behind the cabin. Dash errors follow, and speed is capped at 10 to 25 mph. Dealers most often find a blown ICCU and fuse. One case was a front inverter at under 400 miles. Some cars enter a "zombie" state: lights and climate work, but the car will not leave park, and the electronic parking brake blocks towing. A dead 12V battery alongside a full traction battery is another pattern. Repairs can drag on, with one car gone nearly 8 weeks.

  • Brakes21 crash

In both reports, the car fails to slow when it should. In one crash, the car sped up at about 5 mph while pulling into a driveway instead of stopping for an obstacle. It broke through a gate and a garage wall. The other describes regenerative braking that would not slow the car on a wet road, then a pedal that needed full force before ABS engaged. Neither report includes a dealer diagnosis. With only 2 complaints, no wider pattern shows up.

  • Steering2No crashes

Both complaints describe losing steering along with acceleration when the ICCU fails. One car lost drive power and nearly all control at 65 mph in rush-hour traffic, even though both related recalls had already been done. In the other, the owner could not accelerate or steer after the part blew. Both owners treat this as an ICCU failure, not a separate steering defect. Both also doubt that a replacement ICCU is a lasting fix. One injury is recorded.

  • Acceleration and cruise control2No crashes

In both complaints, the car keeps accelerating without driver input. In one, it surged from 72 mph to 90 within seconds on the freeway and slowed only when the brake was applied. In the other, it kept accelerating after the pedal was pressed fully and quickly released in NORMAL mode, nearly causing a rear-end collision in stop-and-go traffic. Neither report mentions a diagnosis or repair. With 2 complaints, there is no broader pattern.

In owners' own words

Electrical
The car his a module called the iccu that regulates the high voltage battery, battery range goes down, the iccu has been replaced with the vehicle only having 8k miles on the odometer

Electrical
I was coming home from work on 1/13/2025 and got an alert. a red circle saying pull over and check the electrical system. when i pulled over the best i could the car went dark. i called Kia for road assistance and they dispatched a tow to the dealer. the next day the dealer called and told me the ICCU needs to be changed and arranged a loaner car for me. The Dealer has been very helpful throughout this ordeal thus far.

How the 2024 compares with other EV6 years

Complaints for this year next to the average for the other model years, area by area.

The 2024 has the fewest owner complaints of the 3 EV6 years we cover, well under the average of the others. Newer years have had less time to collect complaints, so compare like with like.

Where the 2024 fits in the EV6's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2024 is the third model year of the EV6's first generation (2022–2024).

Kia updated the EV6 for 2025, so a 2024 does not have those changes.

What changed for 2025 (not on a 2024)

  • New angular-designed LED headlights
  • Redesigned front fascia
  • New alloy wheel designs
  • Revamped interior with a revised curved panoramic screen
  • New fingerprint authentication system
  • Updated technological features
