Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical17No crashes

Doors won't open when the 12-volt battery discharges. This happens with the outside handles, and some reports also describe rear passengers unable to get out from inside. Most complaints tie it to federal recall 25V404 (Ford 25S65). Many say the remedy, a software update, was not yet available, so owners were left waiting with no fix. Reported latch failures fall around 4,000 to 12,000 miles. Hot weather and children or pets trapped inside are common worries. Other reports describe a failed high-voltage junction box causing limp mode, a total power loss while driving, and an onboard charger failure with a burning smell.

  • Transmission61 crash

Sudden loss of power is the main pattern. The car shows powertrain malfunction and high-voltage battery warnings, then drops into reduced-power limp mode. One case happened at freeway speed and another at just 185 miles. Some dealers cannot reproduce the fault, while others replace the high-voltage junction box. One crash-related complaint describes the car accelerating from a stop with the brake pressed and hitting a truck. Other reports cover the parking brake engaging at random, wet brakes slow to grip, and a recall repair delayed because no loaner car was available.

  • Acceleration and cruise control31 crash

Unintended surges at parking-lot speeds are the main concern. One crash-related complaint describes the car lunging forward while parking and hitting a tree, a wall, and a parked car while a parking sensor fault message flashed. Another pattern involves adaptive cruise control. Pressing the button while creeping or stopped behind a car makes the car jump to 15 mph. A separate report describes daily front camera fault messages that disable pre-collision assist and leave cruise control unavailable.

  • Steering3No crashes

These complaints are mixed and not purely about steering. One describes loud, constant clunking when the wheel is turned at a stop. Dealers called it normal and blamed brake binding. Another reports an abrupt surge during a low-speed turn into a parking space, with adaptive cruise control apparently involved. A third describes a sudden total loss of power at 25 mph while turning onto a highway, which left the driver with little control. The surge and the power loss both carry a real risk of losing control.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Mustang Mach-E owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Acceleration and cruise control
Everyday I drive the vehicle There are 2 error messages 1. Front Camera fault, service required 2. Pre-collision Assist not available I have 32 Pre-collision warning messages in the last month, one for every day I drive. I had to drive 4 hours with no cruise control causing my leg to cramp at the 2 hour mark. There needs to be a recall for this issue. Many many other owners of the Mach-e have mentioned the same.
