Which GV70 is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Genesis GV70. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
2.5L 4-cylAWD24 mpg

  • The 2025 Genesis GV70 was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A GV70 that averages well under the EPA 20 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Genesis GV70, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical5No crashes

The car loses drive power or refuses to start, often with the immobilizer light on. In one case it would not go faster than 15 mph until the dealer replaced the Integrated Charging Control Unit. Other reports describe the driver's instrument panel or the infotainment screen going blank now and then. Dealers struggle to diagnose these faults unless they show up during testing. The failures come early, at 1500 and 6,000 miles. A few reports also mention unwanted automatic braking with a front collision warning, seats that adjust themselves while driving, and fast brake wear.

  • Automatic emergency braking31 crash

Automatic emergency braking kicks in with nothing in the way. It happens on the highway with cruise control on, in reverse, and in normal driving. Drivers describe hard, jolting stops and close calls with being rear-ended. One of the 3 complaints involves a crash. Lane keeping assist also jerks the steering wheel for no reason. One owner reports that an earlier GV70 was bought back for the same problem. False braking in reverse can leave the car stuck in the path of oncoming traffic during a turnaround.

  • Transmission2No crashes

The vehicle suddenly loses power while driving. It shows a warning to check the EV system, or every dashboard warning light flashes. Turning the car off and back on restores normal driving for a while. Repeat dealer visits and replaced parts do not always fix it, and the problem comes back after the car is declared repaired. Losing power in traffic is a real collision risk, and the fault can come back without warning.

  • Steering2No crashes

Power steering cuts out while the car is moving, and drive power goes with it. Reports describe a pop and a "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning, or a flood of warnings covering brakes, charging, ABS, oil pressure, and AWD. In one case a failed ICCU also took down the main and 12-volt batteries, and the car was towed to the dealer. Restarting may clear the lights briefly before they return. Losing steering assist and acceleration at the same time is a serious loss-of-control risk.

  • Engine2No crashes

The accelerator stops responding. At partial throttle nothing happens. At full throttle the engine revs to between 4 and 5 thousand rpm without upshifting or gaining speed. In another case the car would not go faster than 5 mph with the pedal fully pressed, and there was trouble restarting afterward. Both reports came early, at 3,100 and 11,000 miles. In at least one case the dealer could not find the cause. Losing acceleration is dangerous in heavy traffic and on busy roads.
