Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2026 Genesis GV70, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical9No crashes

Two failures dominate. On the electrified version, a "Check Electric Vehicle System" or "power limited" warning appears at startup or while driving. Dealers diagnose a failed ICCU or battery management system, and the car is towed. Repairs often stall while waiting for parts or approval. Separately, the driver's instrument cluster goes black while driving, even at freeway speed, then reboots and leaves the driver without gauges. Software updates and replacement screens do not always stop it. The climate control screen can also go dark, which locks out HVAC, defrost, and seat heating or cooling controls.

  • Engine2No crashes

Sudden highway shutdown with no warning is reported, with gasoline fumes filling the cabin and no power to lower the windows. That car had only 53 miles. A separate report on the 3.5 describes the vehicle accelerating on its own when the engine is cold at startup and while coasting. Both carry a real loss-of-control risk, but with only 2 complaints on file, no repeating pattern has formed yet.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints GV70 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
When stopped at a stoplight with my foot on the brake and the transmission in drive (D), after 15-30 seconds, the transmission shifts into park and the engine starts. (the autostart was in the default position). This has occurred repeatedly. The the autostart button is pressed and the light is on, the transmission reacts normally. I have a video but it is larger than 10MB
