Which XT6 is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2023 Cadillac XT6. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
2.0L 4-cylAWD, FWD23 mpg
3.6L 6-cylAWD, FWD21 mpg
  • The 2023 Cadillac XT6 was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A XT6 that averages well under the EPA 21 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2023 Cadillac XT6, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Transmission4No crashes

The vehicle sometimes rolls forward after being shifted into reverse, which puts anything parked ahead at risk. Another report describes a sudden loss of motive power while driving at 64,000 miles, with no warning lights and no restart afterward. Both failures carry crash risk. The other half of the complaints concern a powertrain recall repair rather than a failure. Owners say dealers could not get the part, and they consider the wait unreasonable. Those owners report no failure of their own.

  • Backup camera21 crash

Rear parking alerts stay silent while the vehicle backs up, and one complaint links this to a low-speed collision with a truck. In that case, one dealer reported finding plugs in the rear bumper but no sensors, while the selling dealer said every sensor worked. A separate report describes a rear camera that works poorly from about 600 miles and keeps failing after 3 dealer visits. Blind-spot warning failure also appears. Together these leave the driver without help seeing what is behind the car.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints XT6 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Transmission
When the car was put in Reverse Gear, the car was still moving forward and not moving backwards. I tried it multiple times, but it was still moving forward. There was a car in front of my car and since the car was expected to go backwards, this issue put the safety at risk as I could hit the car in front. This issue does not happen every time I do reverse. I bought the car on 1st October and notice the issue on 2nd October 2022.

Filed with NHTSA, October 2022

Backup camera
The rear camera is not working properly. Rear camera is necessary for the driver to help prevent hitting unseen subject behind the car. Let say if there is a 2 years old kid playing in the back of my car, I wouldn't see the kid. I brought the car to the dealership for the 3rd time to get it fixed. But it seems like the problem still occurs. The issue first appeared in after a month of purchase (with about 600 miles on it)

Recalls to confirm (2)

Recall repairs are free at any Cadillac dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 23V172000TransmissionMar 2023

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac XT6, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Blazer, Traverse, and 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5 vehicles. The transmission may have been built with an incorrect sun gear, which can result in the driver-side half-shaft disengaging from the transmission.

Risk: A half-shaft disengaging from the transmission can result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will replace the sun gears, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2023. The remedy is expected to become available August 31, 2023. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GMC's number for this recall is N222389310.

  2. 22V708000EquipmentSep 2022

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles. The certification label located on the driver's side B-pillar contains tire size information that may be illegible. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims.".

Risk: Illegible tire size information may result in the wrong tires being installed, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will replace the vehicle certification label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 12, 2022. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222381690.
