Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2020 Infiniti QX60, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Transmission5No crashes

The CVT loses power or quits outright, sometimes at highway speed or while merging. Symptoms include the engine revving to 5000 rpm without acceleration, surging, jerking, and a car that will only move in reverse. Some failures trigger a check engine light, while others give no warning. One failure came at about 75,000 miles, and dealer replacement quotes run as high as $8,600. Power loss has also been traced to a leaking right shaft seal and a transfer case low on fluid. Sudden power loss in traffic is the main crash risk.

  • Electrical3No crashes

Power windows fail in the down position with a clicking sound, and in one case the door would barely open. The fix is a new window regulator and motor, about $1200 out of warranty at 51000 miles. Other reports describe the car dying at a light with smoke and a burning smell, linked to the starter and possibly the belt. An electrical burning smell can also appear when the heat is on. The smoke and burning smells point to fire risk.

  • Engine2No crashes

Stalling or near-stalling happens when the car is stopped in traffic or slowing for a turn, sometimes with knocking or jerking. The check engine light may flash once and then stay off on later episodes, so dealers sometimes find nothing at first. In one case, faulty fuel injectors were diagnosed and replaced, but the stalling came back the next year. Stalling while turning across traffic is the main safety concern.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints QX60 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Transmission
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2020 Infiniti QX60. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. Additionally, the transmission was jerking while the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 46,000. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but no assistance was provided. It was later discovered that the mileage on the Title was 57,000. The VIN was not available.

Transmission
The CVT Transmission without any warning gave out and wont allow my car to drive forward just reverse. Its been out and its an expensive repair. No check engine warning light came on and my car wont run.

Filed with NHTSA, May 2026

Engine
My engine is making a knocking noise and wants to stall sometimes. Some other Nissan engines have recalls and I feel like it should include this engine. This is a 2020 and I still owe a lot of money. I should not be having major engine issues. Please look at this engine with the other recalls.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020 Nissan Murano, INFINITI QX60, 2021 Nissan GT-R, INFINITI QX50, and Q50 vehicles. The front steering knuckle or rear axle housing may have insufficient strength due to improper heat-treatment.

Risk: The steering knuckle or rear axle could deform upon impact, such as from hitting a curb, resulting in a loss of steering control, or possible wheel separation. Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the front steering knuckle and rear axle housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2021. Nissan owners may contact customer service at 1-800-867-7669. INFINITI owners may contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200.
