Which QX60 is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2019 Infiniti QX60. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2019 Infiniti QX60, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Transmission10No crashes

The CVT stops engaging, shudders, knocks or drops into limp mode, sometimes on the highway, leaving the car unable to accelerate. These failures cluster between roughly 99,995 and 119,000 miles, and dealers call for a replacement transmission at a cost that runs into the thousands. Separate reports describe leaking transfer case and rear differential seals as early as 33,000 miles, often found only at routine service. Other drivers describe hesitation followed by a lurch forward, worse in hot weather, with no codes stored.

  • Electrical6No crashes

The engine shuts off or loses power while driving, sometimes in heavy traffic. FEB and battery warning lights may come on, and dealers often find no codes. In one case a failed alternator left the car unable to accelerate or restart. Other reports describe false FEB and BCI warnings with the brakes engaging when nothing is nearby, plus a car that would not shift from Park to Drive after repeated dealer visits. One filing alleges odometer fraud, with title mileage far above the dashboard reading.

  • Backup camera41 crash

The backup camera misses vehicles behind the car, shows a blind spot, goes to a black screen, or is hard to read at night. Two reports describe backing into another vehicle when neither the camera nor the parking alarm warned of it. No one was hurt in either case. The failures appear early in ownership, including one at 450 miles. Dealers and the manufacturer offered little help to the owners who contacted them.

  • Engine4No crashes

Oil sludge builds up inside the engine despite regular oil changes, and one report also finds bearing shavings at 122k miles. Owners say the manufacturer declines to cover the repair, with an engine replacement quoted at up to $17000. Another pattern is a whining noise and oil leak from a broken right drive shaft seal, which a shop warned could lead to transmission failure. A separate report describes the engine shaking abnormally at start-up that the dealer could not reproduce.

  • Airbags21 crash

An airbag warning light stays on in one report, alongside recurring engine oil sludge, engine noise and the car slowing on its own. The other is a crash report: the car accelerated at full speed while parking with the brake pressed, crossed a median and hit a pole, deploying the driver's side airbag. Few of these filings describe an airbag defect itself. The main complaints point to engine and control problems, and both carry real safety risk.

  • Acceleration and cruise control2No crashes

A prematurely stretched timing chain and failed tensioner and guide leave the car unable to start or to respond to the gas pedal. Owners also note a check engine light and a rattling noise from the engine bay. That loss of acceleration creates real risk when merging or making an emergency move. The second report filed here describes a 2020 model surging to 7,000 rpm at idle, which the dealer could not duplicate.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints QX60 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Transmission
Transfer Case leaking. Resealing of Transfer Case was performed under warranty. The vehicle was under warranty and had only 33,000 Miles. It was rather alarming that such transmission/power train issues showed up at such low mileage.

Filed with NHTSA, July 2024

Transmission
Multiple occasions more than I can count loss of power at acceleration then it kangaroos and takes off. No codes multiple trips to the dealer still no codes. The dealer has another vehicle doing the same thing. Seems to be much worse the hotter the weather. It has scared me several times because there has been solution Found because no engine codes.

Filed with NHTSA, January 2023

Engine
There has been many problems with the QX60 engine with oil slug and Infinty does not want to repair this problem , even after showing regular oil changes. They want to charge up to $17000 to replace the engine

Filed with NHTSA, July 2025

Recalls to confirm (2)

Recall repairs are free at any Infiniti dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 19V807000BrakesPark outsideNov 2019

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima, and 2017-2019 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and unrepaired, or inspected and determined to not need a repair, under recall number 18V-601. In addition, this recall expands the previous population. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) actuator pumps may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board.

Risk: A brake fluid leak on the circuit board may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.

Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS actuator, free of charge. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available, currently expected to be during summer 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: If the ABS warning light remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start up, owners are advised to park the vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures and to not drive the vehicle.

  2. 19V654000Backup cameraSep 2019

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility.".

Risk: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.
