Which Palisade is it?
EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Hyundai Palisade. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.
| Version | Drive | EPA rating |
|---|---|---|
| 3.8L 6-cyl | AWD, FWD | 21–22 mpg |
- Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Palisade that averages well under the EPA 21 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.
Check the odometer against these mileages
Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.
Low-speed ABS braking loss
360–5,036 miles
Why these checks: what owners reported
NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Hyundai Palisade, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.
Brakes703 crashes
Brakes lose stopping power at low speed when a wheel hits a bump, pothole, rumble strip or uneven pavement. Drivers describe the ABS activating with no warning light, violent shaking, a pedal that feels disconnected, and the SUV sliding past stop signs or into intersections. Three reports involve crashes, including hitting a fence and rear-ending another car, and two describe injuries. Most cases occur on nearly new vehicles, often under 5,000 miles, and dealers often cannot reproduce the problem. A smaller group reports the car creeping forward while stopped or braking hard on its own.
Seat belts121 crash
Belts unlatch on their own while driving. The front passenger belt comes up most often, though second- and third-row belts also release, and some buckles never click shut. Federal recall 25V607 covers the defect, but owners report months of waiting for parts after the notice, with dealers unable to repair cars in the meantime. Other complaints describe second-row buckles sitting too deep to reach with a booster seat installed. One crash report says the shoulder belts failed to lock in a rear-end collision.
Suspension6No crashes
Braking over bumps or gravel sets off violent front-end and steering wheel shaking, and the car fails to slow. These reports read like the ABS complaints filed under brakes, and dealers often find nothing wrong. Separate reports describe rear shock failures. In one, a loud rattle was traced to bad rear shocks, and the replacements were back-ordered. In another, a rear strut assembly came loose at about 30 mph and the rear of the car dropped. One owner reports bouncing and lost traction while towing a trailer.
Electrical5No crashes
ABS engages during ordinary low-speed stops or over railroad tracks and entry gates, and the SUV slides forward several feet before it stops. One owner had to shift into park to stop rolling into traffic. Other reports describe every dashboard warning light coming on at once while the power steering stiffens, and a car that starts only with the key fob, not the push button or the phone app. One complaint cites recall 25V-291 without further detail.
Transmission5No crashes
Most of these complaints are about how the transmission behaves: hesitation when accelerating, failure to upshift when merging or passing, and one car that upshifted and pulled forward while coming to a stop at about 816 miles. Dealers often cannot replicate it. One owner reports engine knock and hesitation that progressed to misfires and internal mechanical failure. Another found rear seal and transmission leaks plus a 4x4 coupler that needed replacing. Several of these owners also report the low-speed ABS braking problem.
Wipers and visibility5No crashes
Windshields crack or chip easily. Cracks appear suddenly with no visible impact, sometimes at highway speed, and spread across the driver's line of sight. Other owners report an unusual number of rock chips and scratches within months, with chips turning into spiderweb cracks. One report describes a side window cracking at the same moment as the windshield. Most of these cars are under a year old, and owners describe the cracks as a distraction while driving.
Steering5No crashes
Violent shaking hits the wheel when the car brakes over a bump or pothole at walking speed, and stopping distance grows. Drivers compare it to a blowout, and some say they lost control of the car entirely for a few seconds. No warning lights or codes appear, and several suspect the ABS. One car had 1200 miles when the problem started. Dealers usually cannot reproduce it, and one that confirmed it had no fix. These reports match the low-speed braking problem filed under brakes.
Lane keeping3No crashes
Lane keeping assist pushes the car toward one edge of the lane instead of the center and fights the driver's steering. One owner reports that the feature turns itself on with cruise control. Another describes the system steering hard toward the next lane at highway speed with heavy force on the wheel, again and again over 8 months. Owners point to the risk when passing wide trucks or when a car is closing from behind.
In owners' own words
Excerpts from complaints Palisade owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.
I can come to a complete stop and then will notice the car start to inch forward with foot still on brake which then, I’ll push foot down as far as it’ll go to stop car again. I’ll brake, stop car, put it into park and the entire car will jerk forward. I’m nervous this is going to cause an accident. The car is 2025 with ~600 miles. This is a daily issue since purchase. Appointment scheduled with dealership but they never seem to find anything.

Driving at slow speeds the car’s ABS system kicked in when we transitioned from the road to the parking lot. The parking lot was an even surface and only a slight bump to drive into it. This has happened twice already and the car has 360 miles on the odometer. So comforting! Such great quality !

The passenger side seatbelt will not buckle. There was no warning no signs of failure. The car has 3000 miles on it. Seems like something in the receiver part of the seatbelt is broken.

I was in a car accident on the freeway. Hit from behind. Non of the seat belts locked from the shoulder. Me and my 4 kids all suffered whiplash. The seat belt failed to restrain.

My 25 Pallisade front end/front wheels shake violently when braking and hitting a bump at the same time. It shakes so hard my steering wheel shakes also. It can happen when braking hard, soft, small bump, big bump, it doesn’t seem to matter. It is brand new and I took it into the dealership when there was about 1500 miles on it. They didn’t find anything wrong.

Since the first week of driving my vehicle in August, I have reported to the dealership that it rides fairly bumpy over any road and fails to properly break if it is a bumpy road, causing me to almost have a collision. The dealership was unable to reproduce the same issue I was having and says that my car drives just fine. No messages have popped up

My wife was driving the vehicle and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Every fault and every light came on including the steering tightened up like there was no power steering. Dealership has had the vehicle for almost a week and haven't heard anything. This is a brand new vehicle. Never have bought a hyundai before, very disappointed!
Filed with NHTSA, January 2026
When driving over railroad tracks or entry gates, the vehicle skids forward in an uncontrollable manner and vehicle is unable to stop when I press on the brake pedal. I have to put the car in “park” to stop the vehicle from rolling into oncoming traffic or colliding into the car in front of me. It appears to be an ABS problem.

Recalls to confirm (3)
Recall repairs are free at any Hyundai dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.
25V291000TransmissionPark outsideMay 2025
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles. An insufficient seal on the controller for the electric oil pump may allow moisture to accumulate in the printed circuit board, which can cause an electrical short and result in a fire.
Risk: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Fix: Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed. Dealers will replace the electric oil pump controller, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 11, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 278.
26V034000AirbagsJan 2026
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The side curtain air bags for third-row occupants may deploy improperly in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation.".
Risk: Improper side curtain air bag deployment increases the risk of injury during a crash.
Fix: The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 23, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 292. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 24, 2026.
25V607000Seat beltsSep 2025
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles. The seat belt buckles in the driver, passenger, and second-row window seats may fail to latch.
Risk: Seat belt buckles that fail to latch may not properly restrain occupants in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: Passengers are advised to insert the belt firmly into the buckle with a quick and direct motion, pulling on the belt to confirm the seat belt is fully secured, until the recall remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle assemblies, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed beginning October 23, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated February 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 283.
