Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Honda Passport, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Brakes4No crashes

Front brake rotors go bad very early, in one case under 250 miles and in others within the first few thousand miles. Repeated rotor, pad, hub, bearing and strut work does not fix the problem. Dealers have called the rotor wear normal wear and tear and declined warranty coverage. A separate report describes the car braking hard on its own at 65 mph on an open freeway. It stops in a traffic lane and the gas pedal does nothing. Brake and tire-pressure warning lights also appear alongside a leaking manifold gasket and misfires.

  • Steering22 crashes

Braking and steering faults are linked to a crash in both complaints, and each reports an injury. The two reports appear to describe the same vehicle and the same December 2024 accident. Problems reportedly start around 10,000 miles, after the first scheduled service. They include multiple warning lights, stalling, and braking and steering malfunctions. The dealer blamed what it called the AWS system and replaced camera components, but the issues came back and Honda could not diagnose them. These are few reports, but the loss-of-control risk is serious.

  • Electrical2No crashes

The engine can fail to restart after the auto idle-stop feature shuts it off at a light. The car is then stuck in the intersection until it gets a jump start, and it cannot be shifted into neutral while the engine is off. The dealer found that the battery and electrical system passed all diagnostic tests. A separate complaint says the turn signals and hazard flashers make no audible sound. The dealer said the volume cannot be adjusted on this model and the flasher cannot be replaced.

Brakes
The brake and tmps ights came on for no reason while driving. I pulled over to the side of the road in fear of my safety. I restarted the car to see if they would clear but unfortunately they did not. The manifold and gasket were leaking. The vehicle has been misfiring.
