Which Accord is it?
EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Honda Accord. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.
| Version | Drive | EPA rating |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5L 4-cylGas | FWD | 32 mpg |
| 2.0L 4-cylHybrid | FWD | 48 mpg |
- The 2025 Honda Accord was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
- On the hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
- Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Accord that averages well under the EPA 32 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.
Check the odometer against these mileages
Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.
Steering rack popping noise

Why these checks: what owners reported
NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Honda Accord, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.
Steering24No crashes
At highway speeds the steering wheel sticks near center. Small lane corrections take extra force, then the wheel snaps free and the car overcorrects. Several reports say it gets worse after long drives and in cold weather. Many owners also hear popping, clicking, knocking, or creaking when turning, even while stopped, sometimes within the first 1,500 to 2,000 miles. Dealers have replaced steering racks, but in some cases the noise comes back. Some dealers say no fix exists yet. Other owners describe the car wandering or pulling in its lane, and several call it a loss-of-control risk.
Electrical7No crashes
The car loses acceleration while driving, and the dash fills with warnings. After a restart, a brake system error often stays on. Other owners get warnings for brake, steering assist, TPMS, and collision systems that come and go and keep returning even after a new battery. The infotainment screen goes black while driving, and Apple CarPlay often fails to start. One owner reports a grinding noise when the heat or air conditioning runs. One complaint covers recall 25V785: the dealer did not yet have repair instructions.
Brakes62 crashes
The automatic emergency braking slams on the brakes with nothing ahead, at speeds from about 40 to 73 mph, and a BRAKE warning comes on. That puts the car at risk of being hit from behind. Two reports involve crashes with injuries, including one where pressing the brake pedal did not stop the car. Another owner says the parking brake sets itself when the car is stopped and is hard to release. Dealers report normal diagnostics. A brake system warning that says braking may be reduced also appears in these reports.
Acceleration and cruise control41 crash
With adaptive cruise control on, the car brakes hard while passing trucks or changing lanes on the freeway, even when the lane ahead is clear. One owner saw a "ghost" truck on the display. In stop-and-go traffic, the system has also accelerated toward a vehicle directly ahead. One crash report describes stalling at 60 mph and sudden acceleration that sent the car through a garage wall. Dealers have found no error codes, and these complaints contain no confirmed repair.
Transmission3No crashes
The car suddenly loses all power while driving, at speeds from about 30 to 70 mph, and the dash lights up with brake system, ABS, TPMS, check engine, and other warnings. One owner also lost power steering. Drivers coast to a stop in traffic and are nearly rear-ended on busy highways. Restarting usually brings the car back, but the brake system warning stays on. Owners note that a recall now covers this problem.
Seat belts3No crashes
The rear seat belt release sits deep between the seat sections, which makes it hard to reach. In one report a child in a booster seat got tangled as the belt kept tightening. Another problem: the cluster shows rear seats as empty when someone unbuckled is sitting there. A dealer confirmed this during the hybrid software recall but could not fix it. A third owner doubts the belts restrain properly and got only a vague answer from the dealer.
Airbags21 crash
Neither complaint describes an airbag failing. In one crash report, the car pulled left during a slow turn, accelerated on its own, and lost brakes and steering before going through a garage door. Both knee airbags deployed, and one person was injured. The other report describes an airbag stolen from the car after a thief easily broke the door lock. Two complaints are not enough to point to any airbag defect.
Automatic emergency braking2No crashes
The collision mitigation braking system engages on its own at speed. The warning comes too late for the driver to react. One owner says all four tires locked and the emergency brake engaged, and reports whiplash after three separate events. In another case, adaptive cruise braked hard for a car slowing and turning in a different lane. Both reports describe false braking that could cause a rear-end crash.
In owners' own words
Excerpts from complaints Accord owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.
The vehicle wanders down the road side to side. It’s constantly wandering you have to keep correcting it. It also feels like the steering has a gap in it when you go to correct it. It has been at Honda several times. We were told the last time it may need an alignment so Honda did an alignment and it just made it worse. Vehicle has 11000 miles or so.

Steering is now popping while turning. Only has 2000 miles on it. Apparently a very widespread issue according to online with no fixes. The steering racks are replaced and the noise and issue returns.

The recall for the 2025 accord hybrids should be extended to more models. I have the se trim and I'm having the same issues. Also when I use air condition or heat there's a grinding noise. I brought to the dealer multiple times and showed them videos of it making the sound with no resolution. The grinding noise problem has been ever since I got the car and was always told there is no problem.

I was driving when a car pulled into a driveway. My car was not near this car and the brakes stopped very hard. At other times when the brakes should have stopped they did not. I had a major accident in Feburary and my safety features were on however the car did not stop when the other car turned into front of me causing total damage, broken thumb and torn ligament in my right hand.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Honda Accord Hybrid vehicles. Due to a software error, the integrated control module (ICM) central processing unit (CPU) may reset while driving, causing a loss of drive power.
Risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash or injury.
Fix: Dealers will reprogram the ICM CPU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 6, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is TN2. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning November 18, 2025.
