Reported on other e-tron years with the same design

Few owners have reported problems with this year yet. These years share the 2020's design and most of its parts, so their problems are the ones to look for on this car too.

Which e-tron is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2020 Audi e-tron. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
ElectricAWD218 mi range
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 218 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2020 Audi e-tron, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical3No crashes

The most serious pattern is a sudden loss of drive power at speed. Drive system and electrical system malfunction warnings come on, the car will not accelerate, and it coasts to a stop. Brakes and steering still work. Restarting the car does not reliably fix it, and owners report tows and long dealer visits with no diagnosis. Other reports describe a sunroof leak that lets water reach interior electronics, and a failed connectivity module that disables the SOS feature and phone app. One owner was quoted $2000 to repair that module. Only 3 complaints are on file.

Electrical
Sunroof leaked. Not directly safety, but can be as water was getting on interior electronics. Dealer referenced TSB 2056944/10 and warranty extension U63 Sunroof WrtyExt 7yr/80k, but noted that we were not included in the warranty extension.

Complaints for this year next to the average for the other model years, area by area.

Where the 2020 fits in the e-tron's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2020 is the second model year of the e-tron's first generation (2019–2023).

Audi updated the e-tron for 2023, so a 2020 does not have those changes.

What changed for 2023 (not on a 2020)

  • New branding
  • Updated features
