Run the VIN before you go

These checks are specific to this model year. For tires, body panels, fluids, and the other basics every used car needs, use the general inspection guide.

Reported on other Cayenne years with the same design

Few owners have reported problems with this year yet. These years share the 2022's design and most of its parts, so their problems are the ones to look for on this car too.

Which Cayenne is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2022 Porsche Cayenne. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
2.9L 6-cylGasAWD18 mpg
3.0L 6-cylGasAWD19 mpg
4.0L 8-cylGasAWD17 mpg
3.0L 6-cylPlug-in hybridAWD430 mi range
4.0L 8-cylPlug-in hybridAWD370 mi range
  • The 2022 Porsche Cayenne was sold in five versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the plug-in hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Cayenne that averages well under the EPA 17 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Check the odometer against these mileages

Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.

Where the 2022 fits in the Cayenne's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2022 is the fourth model year of the Cayenne's third generation (2019–2023).

Porsche updated the Cayenne for 2023, so a 2022 does not have those changes.

What changed for 2023 (not on a 2022)

  • New dashboard layout
  • Increased engine outputs
  • Updated powertrains

Recalls to confirm (3)

Recall repairs are free at any Porsche dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.
