Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Lexus GX, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Brakes3No crashes

The brake pedal slowly sinks toward the floor while the vehicle sits stopped, and the SUV creeps forward at idle, sometimes toward an intersection. Releasing and reapplying the pedal stops it briefly before the drift repeats. Drivers end up shifting to neutral or park to stay put. In one case the dealer kept the vehicle for two days and could not reproduce the fault. A separate report describes a knife-sharp metal edge on the back of the parking brake pedal, above the left footrest, that cut a boot. The dealer called it a design issue and made no repair.

  • Electrical21 crash

Two different faults appear here, and both affect control of the vehicle. In a crash report, a screech came before the steering wheel jerked hard to the left and the wipers switched on by themselves. The brake pedal then went to the floor, and the SUV hit a guardrail. The other report describes hill assist failing to hold, so the vehicle rolls backward. Traction control or the brakes then engage and block forward movement. That owner reports two near-accidents at 1500 miles. The dealer found nothing wrong.
