Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical63 crashes

Sudden acceleration during low-speed parking is the most serious pattern, and 3 of the 6 complaints involve a crash. Drivers describe the car surging forward at about 3 to 5 mph, climbing curbs or hitting a building. They say the brakes did not respond, and no warning or automatic emergency braking kicked in. Other reports describe the instrument cluster and infotainment screens freezing or going black while driving, sometimes with the exterior lights and speedometer out. A restart did not fix it. One filing adds a door latch that would not hold, and one concerns charging and camera faults on an EQB.

  • Wheels and tires2No crashes

Sidewall bubbles and air loss on the factory Pirelli 21-inch tires are the common complaint. Tires go flat after minor impacts such as a small pothole, and multiple tires on the same car develop bubbles. Owners believe the tires cannot handle the vehicle's weight. One sudden loss of pressure nearly caused a collision, which makes this a loss-of-control risk at speed. Some owners report several flats within weeks of buying the car and want different rims.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints E-Class owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
For two months my EQB has been signaling high voltage when I charge it also now I’m having a problem connecting the plug to charge my car it shows red light has faulty it’s at the shop for a week now and I haven’t gotten updates about my car the cameras as well are turning black not working.

Filed with NHTSA, February 2025

Wheels and tires
During normal driving, Pirelli tires have bubbles, resulting in air leakage. Tires will eventually run flat. Pirelli tires installed on new vehicle cannot support the weight of the vehicle.
