  • The 2024 Lexus ES was sold in three versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A ES that averages well under the EPA 26 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Lexus ES, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Lane keeping2No crashes

The blind spot warning lights in the side mirrors fail to come on, or come on at unpredictable times, when another car pulls alongside. Reports describe the light turning on well before a car arrives, after it is partly past, or only once it already sits in the blind spot. One report adds that the mirror turn signal lights also stop working, which points to the side sensors. The risk is a lane-change collision with a car the system missed. A dealer declined to fix the problem in at least one case. No mileage pattern appears in the reports.

  • Airbags2No crashes

The driver side airbag cover comes open or detaches, and it can happen while the car sits parked. In one case a dealer blamed dashcam wiring that kept the cover from closing fully and pressed it shut, but the cover opened again later. Another cover came loose at about 3,072 miles, so the problem can appear early. Neither report describes a crash or an airbag deployment. With only two reports, no clear mileage pattern shows.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints ES owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Lane keeping
The two side mirrors do not show cars coming up on the side while driving by yellow warning light. It also does not show the turn signal lights when they are turned on left and right. It seems the side sensors are not working.

Filed with NHTSA, November 2023

Airbags
Driver side airbag cover is open. Previously reported, dealer states that it was open due to dashcam wiring being placed and cover not being closed completely. Dealer closed the cover completely. Today, the cover is open again.

Filed with NHTSA, January 2026
