Which S60 is it?

  • The 2024 Volvo S60 was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A S60 that averages well under the EPA 28 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Volvo S60, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical4No crashes

The center screen goes blank while driving, sometimes rebooting on its own and then failing again. With it go the gauges, warning lights, and access to features run through the screen. Other reports describe all audio cutting out at once, silencing turn signals, blind spot alerts, and parking tones. One owner also reports a loss of motive power. Separately, stops under 10 mph can feel jerky and unpredictable, with the car lurching. Dealers often cannot reproduce these faults, and repeated software updates have not cured them. One owner had to do a factory reset.

  • Brakes22 crashes

Both complaints involve crashes. In each, the car surged forward at low speed while the driver was pressing the brake, once at a stoplight and once while pulling into a parking space. One driver says the pedal went to the floor and no warning lights came on before the car hit a cement barrier. In the other case, Volvo's review of vehicle data showed the accelerator at 90% at the same moment the brake was pressed, a reading the owner disputes. Both cases carry a real risk of low-speed collisions.

  • Steering2No crashes

The collision avoidance system takes over without warning when nothing is in the way, jerking the steering wheel hard and sometimes braking. Reports describe it firing on a freeway exit with a car in the next lane, and on a gently curving two-lane road at 30 mph with the road ahead empty. In one case the car swerved toward oncoming traffic and cut off another vehicle. These unwanted steering corrections create a clear loss-of-control and collision risk.
