Which Wagoneer is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

  • The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 303 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical161 crash

The most common complaint is sudden stalling, both while driving and while stopped. The engine shuts off, the vehicle shifts itself into park, and power and steering assist cut out, usually with flashing warning lights and a check engine light. Several reports put this in the first few thousand miles, and dealers often cannot find a cause. False automatic emergency braking at low speed is the second pattern. One of these complaints involves a crash, and 2 people were injured. Owners also report main and auxiliary batteries going dead after the vehicle sits, blind spot sensor faults, and a glitching center screen.

  • Transmission91 crash

In most of these reports, the transmission shifts itself into park while the vehicle is moving or stopped. Owners see a "Shift into P" message, the engine stalls, and the accelerator does nothing until a restart. Most cases come within the first few hundred miles. One crash-related complaint describes the vehicle shifting from park into drive and hitting a parking barrier. Engine overheating that dealers trace to a faulty thermostat is a second pattern. One owner points to a technical service bulletin on it. Single reports describe a blown crankshaft seal pouring oil on a new vehicle and a vibration that rebalancing did not fix.

  • Steering5No crashes

The main concern here is losing power steering during a sudden shutdown. The engine cuts out, sometimes at highway speed. Warning lights flash, and the wheel feels locked or heavy until the vehicle restarts. Some owners say the vehicle also shifts itself into park while driving. Dealers have blamed the auxiliary battery, the main battery, or the PDC, and the failures come back after repairs. Other reports describe violent steering wheel shake at 70 mph and above on a new vehicle, and rear wheels that feel like they drag in turns.

  • Engine5No crashes

Overheating from a failed thermostat leads the engine complaints. Owners describe a high coolant temperature warning followed by a low oil pressure alert, coolant loss, and a sudden stop in traffic. Warranty covered at least one repair. Stalling is the other pattern. The engine shuts off while slowing on the interstate or sitting at a light, the electronic parking brake engages, and the driver has to shift to park and restart, often with no warning light. One owner with the 3.0L Hurricane engine reports sputtering, hard starts, hesitation, and repeated tows that began near 10,372 miles.

  • Brakes2No crashes

One report describes the vehicle braking hard on its own partway through a left turn with nothing ahead. After two days, the dealer still had no explanation. The other report is less about the brakes than about a shutdown. The vehicle stalls in the road and restarts with stiff steering, and the check engine light comes back on right after a dealer repair. Both complaints come from owners who bought the vehicle new and had it only a few days or months.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Wagoneer owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
I purchased car less than 24 hours ago. Service engine light is on. Dealership ran code and say it wasn't diagnosing a problem. And engine light went off. Drove for 3 hours and then engine light came back on. When I drove the car today, I came to a stop at a stoplight and when I went to go the car would not go. Looked down and my car had been gone into emergency parking. This issue was NOT disclosed to me when I purchased the car.

Filed with NHTSA, March 2026

Electrical
I’ve had issues with the blind spot sensors. After driving a mile or two on open road, the warning pops up saying “Blind Spot sensors unavailable” then the lights on the mirror stay on. This was happening a few months ago so the right sensor was replaced. Now it’s happening again. In a vehicle that is two years old this shouldn’t be an issue.

Filed with NHTSA, June 2026

Transmission
Vehicle is one week old from dealership with 382 miles on odometer at time of incident. Driving under normal conditions. Paved city street in dry weather. Vehicle lost engine power and showed the error message on gauge cluster “shift into p”. Accelerator would not work till stopped vehicle in the middle of the road and shifted to park and back to drive gear.

Filed with NHTSA, October 2024

Transmission
Brand new with 20 miles on the car, drove 120 miles home from the dealership and did not drive hard or aggressively. The car was pouring oil and needed to be towed to the nearest dealer for a blown crank shaft seal.

Filed with NHTSA, January 2024

Steering
Over the last month, twice this has happened. When I turn, either direction it feels like the back wheels lock up. Rub. Drag. Took it to the dealer, and they can't get it to replicate the issue.. something is clearly wrong. Google states alot of 2022-2024 wagoneer have documented similar issues. It does NOT consistently happen. But it happened twice since end of January. Matter of fact, since I had it serviced last
