These years share the 2022's design and most of its parts, so their problems are the ones to look for on this car too.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Genesis G80, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Transmission2No crashes

The right side of the digital gauge panel sometimes stays dark at startup, so speed, rpm, and fuel level do not show, and the turn signals make no click. It happens at random, dealers have not reproduced it, and the service engine light and a stored code follow once the screen returns. One report says it started at 1,200 miles. A separate complaint describes the transmission dropping to third gear during passing and not upshifting. The car then loses speed in traffic, which puts it at risk of being rear-ended. Only 2 complaints are on file.

  • Electrical2No crashes

The large center screen goes blank, and the instrument display shows wrong information. In one pattern, a "Check Lane Change Assist Function" warning appears and the screen goes dark about 20 seconds later, every day, starting before 500 miles. Since that screen runs more than navigation, the car loses other controls too. Other reports describe navigation freezing, a speed limit readout that does not match posted signs, and a driver seat module that still works only sometimes after being replaced. Dealers have not found a cause. One owner worries about fire, but no fire is reported.

How the 2022 compares with other G80 years

Complaints for this year next to the average for the other model years, area by area.

Where the 2022 fits in the G80's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2022 is the second model year of the G80's second generation (2021–2023).

Genesis updated the G80 for 2024, so a 2022 does not have those changes.

What changed for 2024 (not on a 2022)

  • Micro-lens array headlight technology
  • New grille pattern
  • Interior updates with a 27-inch OLED display
