These years share the 2023's design and most of its parts, so their problems are the ones to look for on this car too.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2023 Genesis G80, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Fuel system3No crashes

A strong fuel odor fills the cabin after refueling, and the check engine light comes on. That is the only actual failure in this category. The dealer blames a gas cap that was not closed tightly and a possibly overfilled tank. The owner disputes this and says the smell continues after the visit. The other 2 of 3 complaints describe no failure at all. They are about an open recall notice that dealers cannot complete because the repair part is not yet available. No crash, fire, or mileage pattern is reported.

How the 2023 compares with other G80 years

Complaints for this year next to the average for the other model years, area by area.

The 2023 ranks fifth for owner complaints among 9 G80 years, well under the average of the others. Newer years have had less time to collect complaints, so compare like with like.

Where the 2023 fits in the G80's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2023 is the third model year of the G80's second generation (2021–2023).

Genesis updated the G80 for 2024, so a 2023 does not have those changes.

What changed for 2024 (not on a 2023)

  • Micro-lens array headlight technology
  • New grille pattern
  • Interior updates with a 27-inch OLED display
