Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2026 Genesis G80, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Steering22 crashes

The car brakes hard at highway speeds of 50 to 79 mph with no driver input and nothing ahead. During these events the steering can briefly lock or stop responding. Reports also describe unintended lane departures, erratic lane changes, and sudden acceleration after braking. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Assist, and Master Warning lights come on for no reason. Both filings report crashes with injuries. Both are follow-ups to the same earlier complaint, so they may describe a single vehicle. They say repeated dealer visits failed to diagnose or fix the fault.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain Genesis 2025-2026 G80, GV80, 2026 G80 "Electrified," GV60, GV70 "Electrified" and GV70 vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays.".

Risk: An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or fuel gauge, increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Owners are advised to disable the high definition (HD) radio feature until the recall remedy has been performed. The audio video navigation software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or inspected and updated by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning February 17, 2026. Owners may contact Genesis customer service at 844-340-9741. Hyundai's number for this recall is 031G. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 17, 2026.
