Which Trailblazer is it?
EPA figures for each version of the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.
| Version | Drive | EPA rating |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2L 3-cyl | FWD | 30 mpg |
| 1.3L 3-cyl | AWD, FWD | 28–31 mpg |
- The 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
- Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Trailblazer that averages well under the EPA 28 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.
Check the odometer against these mileages
Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.
Brake squeal and grinding
2,000–12,776 miles
Turbo failure, reduced engine power
25,000–60,000 miles
Why these checks: what owners reported
NHTSA complaints for the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.
Electrical131 crash
The touchscreen goes black, freezes, pixelates or crackles with static, and phones and CarPlay often fail to connect. The backup camera can stay on in every gear, hiding warning messages, and the radio sometimes keeps playing after shutdown. Failed OnStar modules also take out the Bluetooth microphone and remote start. More serious reports describe stalling, power loss, and a flickering instrument cluster, with one crash-related case. Keys stick in the ignition and push buttons refuse to shut the car off. Dealers often cannot find a cause, and radio replacements do not always last.
Engine13No crashes
Turbocharger failure is the main pattern. An "Engine Power Reduced" message appears, the check engine light may come on, and the car can drop into limp mode on the highway, sometimes unable to exceed 30 MPH. Repairs to the turbo or wastegate actuator often do not hold, and the failure returns. Other reports cover a failed coolant control valve, engine debris in the oil pan requiring a replacement engine around 66,000 miles, broken exhaust bolts at the catalytic converter, a cracked coil that left a car stranded, and evap purge valve faults.
The engine overheats, with the temperature needle reaching Hot and the check engine light coming on at low speed. When auto start-stop shuts the engine off at a stop, the screens and dash lights can go dark and the engine shudders on restart. Turbo trouble shows up here too: an "Engine Power Reduced" event on the interstate was traced to a turbo needing replacement at about 103,000 miles. One check engine light was traced to a faulty emissions control valve.
Brakes11No crashes
Squealing, chirping, and metal-on-metal grinding at low speeds is the dominant complaint. It often starts within the first few thousand miles and gets louder over time. Dealers resurface rotors, grease parts, or swap pads, and the noise comes back. Several owners say dealers called it normal for the pad material or refused further work while engineering looks for a fix. A smaller group reports brakes that grab or jerk, ABS warnings, and weaker stopping than when the car was new.
Transmission9No crashes
After the shifter is put in park, a "Shift to Park" message stays on. The car will not fully shut down or lock, and the battery drains. Fixing it can mean cycling the ignition repeatedly, and one dealer replaced the transmission control assembly. One car stalled at 68 MPH with the same message and would not restart. Other complaints describe erratic or lurching shifts, reverse that revs without moving despite repeated valve body replacements, a shifter leaving park on its own, and no upshifts in extreme cold.
Airbags43 crashes
Airbags failing to deploy in crashes is the main concern. These complaints include 3 crash-related reports and 4 injuries. One frontal impact at about 45 mph brought no airbag deployment, no collision warning, and no automatic braking. In a rollover, a driver reported the side curtain deploying late and pinning their head. Going the other way, one car's side airbags deployed at highway speed during a lane change with no impact, no debris, and nothing nearby.
Steering2No crashes
Lockups while driving, with a warning light on the dash, create a real loss-of-control risk. In one case the dealer said the steering unit could not be repaired and had to be replaced, and parts would take several weeks to arrive, with no rental provided. Another report describes the brakes applying on their own while accelerating and the wheel pulling right during a left turn. That problem came back even after the brake master cylinder was replaced.
In owners' own words

The Onstar module has went out on my car and while researching the issue I found out that it is a very common problem with Chevrolet/GM vehicles years 2021-2025 and although Chevrolet and GM are wwll aware that there's an issue and that the onstar modules are faulty there's been no recall. Mind you the module doesn't just affect onstar features it also is connected to bluetooth microphone and remote start and now none of them work at all.

When I start my car my car play will not connect. When I start my car and put my car in reverse to use the back up camera and then put in drive the back up camera will remain on. The speakers are static sometimes. The screen will not work and it will be slow or shut off completely. I have pulled over and shut off my car and opened my door to shut off screen and it remains on for a couple mins playing music even when I shut it off.

The turbo went out on the car for absolutely no reason. Message popped up on dash board saying "Engine power reduced". I have seen this happen to many many many other card across the country. It does not many how many miles are on the car. some Ive seen 25k and some ive seen at 60k. Shouldn't Chevy be recalling and fixing the part? Seems unfair to me as a consumer. Who has thousands of dollars to get that repaired?

Had p1098 code come up on car at 67000 issue coolant control valve assembly went bad. This a commons issue with trailblazers and other cars similar to it. Bad design cause extremely expensive repair for this component.

The brakes on my 2023 Chevy Trailblazer LT. At slow speeds the brakes sound like they are metal on metal and make horrible noise. I have only had this vehicle for 6 months. I did notify the dealer they said they can grease them and they would do it again. And that the only recall fix was for 2021 and 2022 trailblazer having this issue not the 2023 yet

The brakes have been making a loud squeeling when I slow down. This has occurred since I bought the vehicle. The dealership has reviewed it multiple times and state they do not know what is causing it or how to fix it. The last time the tech stated there is nothing they can do. Now the brakes aren't performing as well as they did and it is concerning.

Repeat issues with the transmission, ongoing issue for about two months. Initially experienced the vehicle not shifting in drive or reverse, which was resolved in drive. The issue persists when in reverse, where I will put it in gear but it will rev without moving, as if the vehicle is in neutral . The dealership has replaced the valve body three times and is now awaiting other parts to attempt to resolve the issue.

My family and I was I involved in a hit and run accident. My minor child is still suffering from shoulder/rotator cuff injuries. Hewas in the process to start conditioning for football. The seatbelt on the day of the accident did not lock. GM sent a criminal investigator not a trained engineer for the vehicle. The seatbelts needs to be inspected. The motor/transmission is making a ticking sound.
