Run the VIN before you go

A history report shows accidents, title brands, odometer readings, and open recalls for this 2025 Chevrolet Silverado. Ask the seller for the VIN; it is also on the dash at the base of the windshield.

Which Silverado is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

  • The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado was sold in six versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 492 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Check the odometer against these mileages

Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Engine171 crash

Sudden engine failure at low mileage is the dominant pattern, usually between about 2,000 and 5,750 miles. Trucks drop into reduced acceleration or limp mode, show low oil pressure warnings or a PO6DD code, then rattle, knock, or seize. Reports cite connecting rod bearings on the 6.2L and thrust bearings on the 3.0L diesel, sometimes with no warning light first. Several failures happened at highway speed. Replacement engines and turbos are often back-ordered, leaving trucks at dealers for weeks. One truck burned and was a total loss, and one crash report blames O2 sensor wires melted by the exhaust.

  • Transmission16No crashes

Transmission faults lead these reports. Trucks refuse to engage reverse, shift hard, surge, or jerk, and dealers find bad valve bodies. Some owners describe a sudden lock-up that feels like being rear-ended. Others report a shudder at 70 to 75 mph, stalls that drop the truck into neutral, and power loss with a misfire as early as 600 miles. One oil cooler failure put oil into the coolant at 26000 miles. Dealers often cannot duplicate the problem, and some trucks wait a week or more for diagnosis.

  • Electrical13No crashes

Driver-assist and display failures make up most of these reports. Cameras, blind spot, and rear cross-traffic warnings drop out, adaptive cruise accelerates on its own, and Super Cruise can refuse to disengage. Audio often goes silent at startup, taking turn signal clicks and safety chimes with it until a restart. Instrument clusters and infotainment screens freeze or go black, so speed stops updating. One truck braked hard to a stop at 30 mph. Repeat dealer visits and back-ordered cluster parts are common.

  • Steering4No crashes

Loss of power steering usually comes with a full shutdown. Every warning light comes on, the engine dies, and the driver loses steering and braking assist. One truck did this five times and spent over 50 days out of service. Another first showed fuel-related reduced acceleration warnings in cold weather and had fuel system parts replaced before it shut down. A separate report describes the truck pulling left at 75 mph from about 500 miles, with four alignments that did not fix it.

  • Backup camera2No crashes

Two problems appear here. In one, the audio system goes silent or crackles, so parking, collision, and rear cross-traffic alerts make no sound and turn signals stay quiet. In the other, the automatic braking sensor sticks in alert mode and slams on the brakes while pulling into parking spaces or backing up, even with automatic braking turned off. Both reports describe intermittent faults rather than a single repair.

  • Fuel system2No crashes

Two very different failures are reported. On a diesel used for towing, the DEF gauge reads empty within 100 miles of a full fill, warns that speed will be limited, and fuel economy drops from about 13 to 8 mpg. The more serious report is from a 2500 HD with the 6.6L, where fuel pours from the engine, soaks the chassis, leaves a trail on the road, and fills the cab with fumes.

  • Acceleration and cruise control2No crashes

These two reports concern connected services and drive modes, not cruise control. In one, OnStar stops working and the replacement module is on backorder with no delivery date. In the other, One-Pedal Driving gives little or no regenerative braking in Reverse. The truck coasts when the driver lifts off the accelerator, unlike in Drive, so the driver has to use the brake pedal during tight maneuvers.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV work trucks. The pedestrian alert sound system may not produce sound at a sufficient volume. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.".

Risk: A vehicle that fails to make sufficient sound may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will update the software in the body control module (BCM), free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 22, 2025. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N242483530.
