Run the VIN before you go

A history report shows accidents, title brands, odometer readings, and open recalls for this 2025 Honda Prologue. Ask the seller for the VIN; it is also on the dash at the base of the windshield.

Which Prologue is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Honda Prologue. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
ElectricAWD, FWD294–308 mi range
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 294–308 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Check the odometer against these mileages

Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.

  • Front CV axle clicking

    1,000–9,000 miles

  • Replacement axles clicking again

    3,200–7,000 miles

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Honda Prologue, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Steering291 crash

Front axles click or clunk when the wheel is turned near full lock, during U-turns, or when accelerating through a turn from a stop. Onset is usually within the first 9,000 miles, and the noise gets louder over time. Dealers often confirm the sound but return the car unrepaired, saying Honda has no fix yet or is waiting on a new part. Some cars had both axles replaced and the clicking came back. One crash report describes the car drifting left, steering and brakes not responding, and the vehicle overturning.

  • Electrical17No crashes

A "Service High Voltage System" warning can appear while driving or charging, sometimes after cold weather. It is often followed by reduced acceleration, loss of cabin heat, and charging that stops at a low level. Dealers frequently clear the codes without finding a cause, and the warning returns weeks later. The instrument cluster and infotainment screens also go black while driving, for anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes. Other reports describe sudden braking while reversing with nothing behind the car, and a backup camera image too dark to use at night.

  • Transmission12No crashes

Front CV axles click during slow turns and when accelerating out of a turn. The noise often starts within the first few thousand miles. One report describes grease leaking from the boot at 400 miles. Replacement axles have failed again, in one case about 2,500 miles after the repair. Several dealers say Honda has no fix, that redesigned parts are not available, or that the problem is not a safety concern. Separate reports describe traction control cutting power during gentle turns on dry pavement, nearly stopping the car in traffic.

  • Exterior lights7No crashes

Reverse lights are too dim to light the area behind the car, so the backup camera image is nearly black at night. Where there are no streetlights, drivers say they can barely see past the rear bumper. Tapping the brake pedal adds a little light, but drivers cannot hold the brake while backing up. Owners describe this as a design weakness, not a part failure, and no fix is reported. One report places it at about 7,700 miles. Others say it has been present since the car was new.

  • Suspension6No crashes

This category mixes several problems. The most common is front axle clicking or grinding in turns. Repairs are stalled by backordered parts or dealer instructions not to replace axles. One lease car developed loud front suspension creaking at 3k miles, worst when accelerating and turning, and the dealer said Honda is investigating. Other reports describe "Service High Voltage System" warnings that cut power, stop the heat, and limit charging to about 25%. The main control screen can also go black and stay off.

  • Backup camera3No crashes

Rear automatic braking can slam on while the car is barely moving in reverse with nothing behind it, and passengers think the car hit something. Some drivers turn the system off. The other reports describe a rear camera image so dark at night that objects are hard to see, starting at 10 and 600 miles. One dealer said the camera was working as designed. Another dealer did not diagnose the car.

  • Acceleration and cruise control21 crash

One crash report describes the car surging forward at low speed while pulling into a parking spot and striking three parked vehicles. Collision mitigation braking did not activate, and the dealer could not explain the event. A second report describes a sudden total loss of power in highway traffic with no warning messages. The car could not go faster than 8 mph and would not restart for about 10 minutes. Both are rare in the filings but carry serious crash risk.

  • Automatic emergency braking2No crashes

The car brakes hard with nothing ahead, at a stop sign or while driving through a green light, and nearly causes rear-end collisions. One owner says the false stops continued after a dealer software update. Another reports driver-assist systems shutting themselves off while one-pedal driving applies the brakes. The same owner describes traction control activating with cruise control set on dry roads, infotainment screens going black, and dealers unable to reproduce the problems.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Prologue owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Steering
Car started making knocking noise at 3k miles coming from axle. I reported to Dealership. Car sways on highways when steering straight. Car stop s at 10mph when turning corners saying that a pedestrian is infront of vehicle when there is no one. Backup camera glitches. Vehicle very unsafe. Dealership not doing anything. Contacted employees that sold me the vehicle and they are acting non chalant.

Steering
The 2025 Honda Prologue is 7 months old with 5424 miles has a clicking sound when you turn all the way left or all the way right. It is a defective design part that will continue to get worse until the vehicle will become undrivable. Honda Corporation is aware of the problem as the 2024 Prologue has the same issue.

Electrical
When reversing in a dark or low light area I can't see behind the vehicle on the backup camera display. It seems like there is no night vision and the reverse lights don't illuminate behind the vehicle enough to see in the display or the rearview mirror. I've almost backed into objects because you cannot see behind the vehcle.

Electrical
I received another service high voltage system message literally weeks after I brought my vehicle in and had the issue fixed. I reported this issue last on 11/24/2025 it is now 12/19/2025 and it happened again. The heat in my vehicle seemed to stop working and was blowing cold air. This is just poor design and disgraceful.

Transmission
Consistent clicking noise when turning steering wheel left or right from stopped to slow speeds. Noise observed around 1,200 miles. Both front CV joints/axels were replaced by dealership of purchase at approximately 3,200 miles. Identical clicking sounds have begun again. Vehicle has approximately 5,200. Issue has been reported to dealership of purchase again.

Transmission
I noticed the CV axle grease coming out of the boot onto the wheel a few days from taking delivery from dealership at around 400 miles. In a few weeks the CV joint started making noise. I have an appointment at the dealership currently. I am ASE certified and know what a CV axle failure looks and sounds like.

Exterior lights
The backup camera on this vehicle is basically useless at night if there are no streetlights around. I don’t know if this is a combination of a poor camera and dim reverse lights or just a bad camera, but I think it’s a safety hazard. This is new vehicle using current technology, the camera should be able to see at night, or the reverse lights need to be brighter. What is the point of a reverse camera if I can’t see anything out of it.

Exterior lights
The backup camera at night is practically black. I find many people complaining about this online, but no fix. It is dangerous to back that car up at night!!! There must be a fix before someone gets hurt. Either upgrade the camera or upgrade the backup lighting
