Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Run the VIN for open recalls and get dealer paperwork showing any air bag recall work was completed.
  • Test the hands-free liftgate while standing behind it and confirm it never closes by itself.
  • Look behind the lower front grille for a dented condenser, then run the A/C on max and confirm it blows cold.

Which TX is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Lexus TX. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

2.4L 4-cylHybridAWD27 mpg
3.5L 6-cylPlug-in hybridAWD450 mi range
  • The 2025 Lexus TX was sold in three versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A TX that averages well under the EPA 23 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Lexus TX, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Body and structure2No crashes

At highway speeds, the hood flutters. Dealers confirm the problem and say they have seen it on other TX models, but they say no repair is available. Cases opened with Lexus corporate have not led to a fix. Both reports describe the same symptom. Neither says the hood came open, but the movement is easy to see from the driver's seat.

  • Transmission2No crashes

Acceleration from a stop hesitates or barely builds, even with the pedal more than halfway down. Reports link the lag to a hybrid battery charge below 30%, catalyst warm-up after a cold start, and the motor generator running in charge mode. Drivers describe near collisions while pulling into traffic or turning left across busy lanes, so the weak launch is a real crash risk. The complaints compare it to the same problem on the Toyota Grand Highlander, and no credible fix is described.

  • Electrical2No crashes

The main 14-inch center display goes completely blank. When it fails, the forward, surround, and reverse camera views disappear along with the main control interface. The screen stays dark even after shifting into Reverse and then Park. Losing the backup camera raises the risk of a collision while parking or backing up. Neither report gives a mileage or describes a repair.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints TX owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Body and structure
Lexus TX hood flutters at highway speeds, Dealers acknowledging the issue and confirming no repairs available. Created a case with Lexus corperate office, so far no resolution after submitting vehicle report from dealer visits. This issue is similar to GX hood issue, but Lexus is not looking into this and acting like we are not aware of this and no one informed.

Body and structure
TX hood flutter at highway speeds, dealer acknowledged the issue but not able to resolve the issue, as he was able to see hood issue with other TX models.

Filed with NHTSA, December 2025

Transmission
In March 2025, pulling out from parking lot into traffic and accelerated but vehicle slowly moved forward even though accelerator pedal was more than halfway down. Luckily, the oncoming vehicle had time to slow down and avoid hitting my vehicle. This is the same problem that Toyota Grand Highlander Platinum owners have been experiencing. This is a safety hazard especially when your accelerating into traffic and the vehicle basically craws forward.

Recalls to confirm (2)

Recall repairs are free at any Lexus dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 25V744000Backup cameraOct 2025

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A software error may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility.".

Risk: A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will update the parking assist software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 2, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB13 and 25LB06. Subaru's number for this recall is WRE25.

Due to an error in the instrument panel software at vehicle startup, the instrument panel may fail to display vehicle speed, brake system, and tire pressure warning lights.

Fix: Dealers will update the instrument panel software for non-PHEV vehicles, free of charge. For PHEV vehicles, dealers will inspect the instrument panel assembly, and either replace it, or update the software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed December 5, 2025.
