Which Blazer EV is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
ElectricAWD, RWD279–324 mi range
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 279–324 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Check the odometer against these mileages

Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Brakes191 crash

Unexpected hard braking is the main problem. The car stops abruptly at low speed or in reverse, reacting to things like trash cans or a manhole cover, and occupants describe being thrown into seatbelts and headrests. One report cites a concussion. A second pattern is loss of power braking: the pedal sinks to the floor with a "brake assist failure" message, sometimes cleared by restarting. One filing reports this four times in the first 450 miles. Owners say dealers and GM offer no lasting fix. One rear-end crash occurred with no safety system activating.

The rear parking brake engages on its own while the car is moving, bringing it to an abrupt stop. Sometimes a "Service Parking Brake" message appears; other times there is no warning. It happens in reverse at low speed and while driving, and occupants in one report sought treatment for back, neck, and whiplash injuries. Most filings center on waiting for a recall repair, with owners told parts are not yet available and the wait running too long. One owner left the car at the dealer pending a buyback.

  • Electrical181 crash

The car loses power or shuts off while driving, often after "Service high voltage system" and reduced acceleration warnings. Reports place these failures early, between 400 and 2,200 miles, and say software updates did not cure them. Other complaints describe the instrument cluster and infotainment screens going black at speed, brakes and power steering cutting out, and the parking brake engaging unexpectedly. Turn signals also misbehave. Parts such as a power module and a right rear signal module have sat on back order, one for more than a month. One crash involved a rollover with an injury.

  • Wipers and visibility9No crashes

Glossy dashboard surfaces reflect onto the windshield in sunlight, making it hard to see pedestrians, animals, and objects ahead, especially to the right of center. Most complaints in this category describe this glare, and it appears on nearly every sunny drive. A second pattern is wipers that stop working without warning, including in heavy rain and on the interstate, with the washer sprayer failing too in one case. The wipers usually return after the car is shut off and restarted. No warning lights accompany the wiper failures.

  • Automatic emergency braking9No crashes

Automatic emergency braking engages hard with nothing ahead, both in parking lots and at highway speeds of 55 to 65 mph. Drivers describe sudden speed drops of 15 to 20 mph, stops partway into traffic lanes, and adaptive cruise control braking forcefully on an empty lane. False triggers show up most at dawn, dusk, and near shadows or overpasses. Several occupants report whiplash and back pain, and the main risk is being rear-ended. Dealers have called the sensors too sensitive, and many owners have switched the system off.

  • Transmission3No crashes

One-pedal driving does not work in reverse even though the owner's manual says it should, so the car lurches backward instead of creeping. That can surprise drivers and endanger people standing behind the car. Another report describes displays going blank while driving, a grinding noise inside the dash, unavailable climate controls stuck on high defrost heat, and vibration on smooth roads, with the car held at the dealer for parts on back order. Only three complaints are filed here, so no broad pattern is visible.

  • Exterior lights3No crashes

The turn signal stalk snaps back too hard when it cancels after a turn, briefly flashing the opposite signal and misleading drivers behind. Engaging the right signal can also be difficult. Separately, the right rear LED tail lamp fails: it stops lighting with the headlamps or brakes, the turn signal flashes fast, and a lamp failure warning appears. One dealer reported GM had no fix and told it not to attempt repairs. A dead brake light on one side raises the risk of being rear-ended.

  • Fuel system2No crashes

Driving range falls far short of buyer expectations, with one owner averaging about 125 miles on roughly 70% of a charge and seeing range drop sharply in cold weather. In another case the car would not accept a fast charge, and the dealer found the battery physically damaged even though the owner recalled no impact and the car showed no other damage. Only two complaints are on file in this category, so no broad pattern is visible yet.

  • Suspension2No crashes

Rear suspension noise escalates into a loud failure caused by broken fasteners on the rear strut. In the reported case it surfaced around 1,850 miles, the dealer strongly advised against driving the car, and the repair stalled for weeks awaiting GM inspection and approval. The other filing here is really about brake concerns and recall work, from an owner afraid to drive the car. With only two complaints, the strut fastener failure is the one concrete suspension problem on record.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Blazer EV owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Brakes
On April 7, 2025 while backing out of the driveway, my son's car abruptly stopped. The manhole cover at the end of our driveway triggered the emergency braking system. My head was slammed against the headrest and caused a great deal of pain in my head. On April 15, 2025, I went to Kaiser and was told that I have a concussion.

Filed with NHTSA, April 2025

Brakes
The vehicle has engaged the brake on multiple occasions unexpectedly. This is related to the recent recall that GM announced and is unable to repair. I have made multiple attempts to reach GM through written mail, phone, X and the BBB and have not received a satisfactory resolution as the safety issue persists.

Filed with NHTSA, September 2025

Electrical
After getting the recall repaired (which I was never informed of and I had the parking brake engage as I was travelling 30 mph causing me to skid down the road) I got the vehicle back and the very next day it was the same issue and the abs and traction control light came on and it began making loud clicking noises every time I would engage the brake.

Filed with NHTSA, July 2025

Electrical
I’ve had intermittent issues where the one pedal driving feature would disable itself. Last night I narrowly avoided a T-bone collision as the OPD deactivated and as I approached a junction it took me a second to realize the car was not stopping and it was only by sheer luck that the other vehicle stopped abruptly so we didn’t collide.

Filed with NHTSA, November 2024

Wipers and visibility
Wipers, Yes available for inspection Wipers would not operate regardless of control speed setting while driving on interstate, could not clean windshield and visibility was dangerously diminished The windshield solvent sprayer did NOT work as well Once I parked, turned off car, started car 30 minutes later and the Wipers were back to operating normally. Not confirmed, because it happens intermittently No Inspections No warning lights or indicators

Filed with NHTSA, January 2025

Wipers and visibility
There is a glare from the dashboard of the vehicle that shines onto the windshield and causes visibility to be nearly impossible. I am unable to see certain things on the roadway as a result. This happens every single time the sun happens to be out and is an extreme safety issue. This vehicle is not safe to operate or be on the roadway in any way shape or form

Filed with NHTSA, August 2025

Automatic emergency braking
The vehicle will automatically extremely hard brake while moving for no apparent reason, with no obstructions present. This problem startles driver and passenger and can present a danger to vehicle of being hit by other vehicles not expecting a hard braking situation for no apparent reason. Please investigate and make manufacturer responsible to fix the issue. Thank You

Filed with NHTSA, February 2025

Automatic emergency braking
Automatic emergency braking engages violently on occasions when there is no obstruction present. It has left me at times with my vehicle stationary half way into a high speed traffic lane with the parking brake engaged. The time it takes to disengage the brakes leaves the vehicle in a dangerous position in the roadway.

Where the 2024 fits in the Blazer EV's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2024 is the first model year of the Blazer EV's first generation (2024 on). First years of a redesign often carry teething problems that Chevrolet fixes in later years, so the checks above matter more than usual.
