Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Run the VIN for open recalls and ask for dealer paperwork on any brake or parking brake work performed.
  • Drive in slow traffic, on the highway, and in reverse, watching for hard braking with nothing ahead.
  • Ask for service records covering high voltage warnings, power module replacement, or brake assist failure messages.

Which Blazer EV is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
ElectricAWD, FWD, RWD303–334 mi range
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 303–334 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical5No crashes

Brakes apply hard without driver input, the parking brake engages while the car is moving, and the car briefly surges forward on its own. Separate reports describe the vehicle shifting itself into park. Water entering past the windshield and a poorly sealed headliner soaks the dashboard and makes the screens blink. The motorized charge port door can stop opening, with no manual release, leaving the car unable to charge. The backup camera also lingers after shifting to drive, blocking the touchscreen garage door control. No mileage pattern appears.

  • Brakes41 crash

Sudden hard braking with no hazard present is the main problem, often while reversing and sometimes with no warning on the dash. One report describes the car braking and then accelerating on its own into a guardrail. Another describes a low-speed emergency stop that left two occupants with whiplash. Across 4 complaints there is 1 crash and 2 injuries. A squeak from the brake pedal area also appears, and a master cylinder replacement did not stop it. Dealers often cannot reproduce the braking events, and repairs are refused or not attempted.

  • Automatic emergency braking4No crashes

Automatic emergency braking fires with nothing ahead, stopping the car abruptly in the middle of the road or during lane merges, which risks a rear-end collision. Warnings such as "Approaching Person" or "Front Brake Applied" can appear during these events, and one report notes a sensor-disabled message shortly before. Problems recur, but dealers usually cannot duplicate them, so cars leave unrepaired. One report also describes clicking from the front suspension and trouble steering straight, with no fix found and a buyback offered.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Blazer EV owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
My windshield is defected with no real time when a replacement can be ordered..the interior lining is not sealed properly which is causing a buckling effect by drivers and passengers visors.. Rain is getting inside and soaking into the dashboard causing the electrical system on screens to blink in and out Finally my brake harness is still on recall and my car has been shifting into park which could cause severe problems if I am on the highway..

Filed with NHTSA, September 2025

Electrical
The motorized charge port door no longer opens. There is no manual operation rendering the vehicle unable to charge. This presents a potential hazardous situation if the error occurred during a road trip where there are greater distances between charging stations and services. GM customer service and OnStar could not resolve the issue when contacted.

Filed with NHTSA, January 2025

Brakes
1. Vehicle has a horrible squeaking sound coming from the brake pedal area. First dealer diagnosed it as the master cylinder needing replacement. Noise did not go away and GM said that it is normal. The noise is not normal and has never been on any other car I have owned. 2. When reversing, the car sometimes abruptly slams on the brakes as if it is avoiding a collision even though no collision is close to happening. GM refuses to fix the problem.

Filed with NHTSA, February 2026

Brakes
At a low speed, between 10 and 15 mph, the forward collision system automatically triggered and brought the car to an immediate stop. While we were lucky that no car was following behind us, the passenger and I experienced significant whiplash and lasting back pain as a result of this. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone, and not been reproduced. The forward collision system flashed (red warning light, alert).

Filed with NHTSA, December 2025

Automatic emergency braking
Attempting to merge into another lane today. Collision warning emergency breaking triggered and break checked the vehicle behind me. Almost caused me to be rear ended by the vehicle behind me.
