Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Mazda CX-9, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical2No crashes

The driver's seat heater can get hot enough to burn skin. The one injury report describes first-degree burns and blistering on the backs of both thighs after several hours of driving on the highest heat setting. The burns happened through pants. The other complaint in this category is a lightning strike on the highway, which is an outside event and does not point to a defect. With only 2 complaints on file, no wider electrical pattern shows up.

  • Body and structure2No crashes

Body fasteners come loose and front bumper panels crack without any impact. One report finds several windshield header bolts and cowl panel fasteners loose at about 44,000 miles. The concern is that the windshield could shift, and that vibration or noise could distract the driver at highway speed. Another report describes a crack forming on the front bumper near the front combination light at 36,000 miles on a car that has never been in an accident. Neither report describes a crash or a part coming off. Only 2 complaints are on file.
