Worth adding to your 2024 checks

  • Run the AC on its coldest setting and confirm cold air; check behind the grille for oil residue or condenser damage.
  • Ask for service records showing any AC condenser repair and whether the warranty covered it.
  • Accelerate from a full stop after a cold start and confirm the car pulls firmly without hesitation.

Which TX is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2024 Lexus TX. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

  • The 2024 Lexus TX was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A TX that averages well under the EPA 23 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Lexus TX, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Airbags172 crashes

Curtain air bag recall repairs stall at the dealer in most of these reports, with parts listed as unavailable for months. Filers describe cars parked since mid-2024, no comparable seven-seat loaner, and insurers threatening to drop coverage. Several say they cannot drive or sell the vehicle while they wait. Of the 2 crash reports, both involve injuries. One describes the driver and passenger air bags failing to deploy in a side impact and the driver seatbelt not locking, leaving the driver with a concussion.

  • Electrical41 crash

The power liftgate closes on people while they stand behind the car unloading. One crash-flagged report says it struck heads more than once, and a dealer technician reproduced the fault but only suggested turning the foot sensor off. Other reports describe the car shutting down and locking every door with the key inside, with the manual backup handles not working. Driver-assist warnings such as Lane Departure and Forward Collision Avoidance appear at around 1,600 miles and return after repeated dealer repairs. Road debris damaging the A/C condenser also shows up here.

  • Seats3No crashes

Plastic trim parts break or come loose. The casing around the driver seat cushion detaches within months and slides into the driver's left foot area. Folding the third row leaves a bump under the cargo cover, caused by a bent plastic bracket near the spare wheel well, and the dealer says the fix means replacing the whole unit. Some shorter drivers say the driver seat will not rise high enough to see over the hood, which dealers call normal. Warranty claims for these issues are denied.

  • Wipers and visibility2No crashes

Sunroof glass shatters on the highway with a loud pop and crackling. These reports find no sign that anything hit it. In one case the broken glass later falls into the cabin, and the closed sunshade is what keeps fragments off the occupants. Separately, the driver-side mirror vibrates at freeway speeds, which blurs the rear view and reflects light into the driver's eyes. The passenger mirror and the rearview mirror are unaffected.

  • Transmission2No crashes

The car hesitates and loses power when pulling away from a stop, as if it were starting in too high a gear, and recovers only after the driver lifts off and presses the pedal again. That leaves the vehicle exposed while turning across traffic, and this report involves the TX 500h hybrid. The shift knob also unscrews during gear changes, especially when shifting into neutral for a car wash. That makes it hard to get back into drive and has nearly caused collisions.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints TX owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Airbags
The manufacturer, Lexus, is unable to remedy an airbag safety recall (24LB05/24LA05) for my vehicle in a timely manner. Additionally, they are unwilling to provide a comparable 7-seat loaner. Our insurance has also threatened to drop coverage for the vehicle as it is unsafe to drive. In the meantime, we are unable to drive or sell the vehicle.

Filed with NHTSA, October 2024

Airbags
Failure of component are the curtain shield airbags. The safety of my customers are at risk when car is being rented out due to this concern the Lexus TX has not been in use, for safety concerns. This issue is a known safety risk which was known to the public on June 20th, 2024.

Filed with NHTSA, October 2024

Seats
The plastic casing holding the driver seat cushion broke/detached itself after a couple of months of driving and even if put back in place it'll continue sliding and moving. It can interfere with my left foot while driving making it a hazard. Lexus reviewed the issue and said it was not covered by warranty.

Filed with NHTSA, November 2025

Wipers and visibility
There is significant vibration coming from the driver-side side mirror. Very noticeable on the freeway. As a result, the mirror appears blurry and at certain times of the day, light is reflecting back into my eyes which is dangerous. The other side mirror and rear view are ok. Something seems to be wrong with the driver side.
