Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Check that doors unlock and the car starts on the first try after it sits overnight.
  • Drive a long highway stretch and watch for sudden shutdowns, shifts into neutral, or warning messages.

Which GV80 is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Genesis GV80. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

  • The 2025 Genesis GV80 was sold in three versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A GV80 that averages well under the EPA 19 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Genesis GV80, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical4No crashes

The whole screen system goes black while driving, sometimes at highway speed. Drivers lose the speedometer, gauges, radio and Bluetooth calls until the system reboots, which takes about a minute in one report. During that time, collision warning, blind-spot and lane-departure alerts also stop working. One owner says the restarts continued after dealer work. A separate report describes the car pulling to the right when accelerating from a stop at about 3,000 miles. That problem keeps coming back, and the dealer could not reproduce it.

  • Automatic emergency braking31 crash

The car brakes hard for no clear reason. Owners describe false forward collision warnings, emergency braking that stops and stalls the car during left turns, and a driver attention warning set off by sunlight, glasses or a glance to the right. When that warning trips, lane assist and adaptive cruise shut off and the car slows sharply. Following drivers have had to swerve. One case ended in a rear-end crash that pushed the car into another vehicle. Owners say the system cannot be fully turned off.

  • Body and structure2No crashes

The soft-close door pulls itself shut with a hand still in the gap. Both complaints describe a thumb caught as the door swung back and the soft-close feature finished closing it. The door gives no warning. In one case it held the thumb for about 10 seconds, and the handle would not release it. Both reports involve an injury, with bruising, swelling and continued pain days later.

  • Fuel system2No crashes

Neither complaint describes a breakdown on the road. Both are about a safety recall notice that owners say involves the high-pressure fuel crossover pipe, with no remedy available yet. Owners are frustrated that neither the dealer nor the manufacturer can say when a fix will arrive. In one case, a dealer asked to take back a newly sold car because of the open recall. These complaints are about waiting for a repair, not a pattern of fuel system failures.

  • Seats2No crashes

The power-folding second-row seat starts folding while someone is still sitting in it. The fold button sits where a child's knee, a shoe or a reaching hand can press it by accident. Once the seat starts moving, it keeps folding against resistance and does not seem to detect that someone is in it. Both complaints involve young children, including one in a car seat. In both, an adult had to press the button again to reverse the seat.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints GV80 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
Had Recall 031G completed on 01/20/2026. Bluetooth continues to glitch and infotainment system continues to restart and go black while driving leaving driver without key information to operate vehicle posing a crash risk

Filed with NHTSA, February 2026

Body and structure
I exited the car, the car door was shutting, however, not all the way shut. My thumb was between the door and the body of the car at which point the soft close feature engaged, shutting my thumb in the door all the way and squeezing shut. No warning signals. Finger is badly bruised and swollen. No inspections have been done.

Filed with NHTSA, October 2025

Fuel system
I received a safety recall notification in the mail regarding my 2025 Genesis GV80 reference High Pressure Fuel Crossover Pipe which at this time NO REMEDY is AVAILABLE. This matter has to be resolved ASAP due to a safety hazard to me and my family.
