Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2023 Genesis GV60, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical271 crash

The driver's instrument cluster often stays blank at startup, sometimes for several minutes. During that time there is no speedometer and no warning lights. Many reports tie this to cold mornings, and some say it started after an over-the-air update. Warming the cabin first helps in some cases. The second common failure is the ICCU charging unit. Level 2 charging stops, a fuse blows, and the car can lose propulsion at highway speed, sometimes again after earlier repairs. Owners also report the charge port overheating. One complaint involves a crash with an injury.

  • Transmission13No crashes

Most reports describe a loud pop from the rear, then a check-electrical-system warning and a sudden loss of power or limp mode. Dealers usually find a failed ICCU and high-voltage fuse. Some cars fail at low mileage, and some fail a second or third time. Dealers often tell owners not to drive the car, and replacement parts can have no delivery date. Other reports describe a rear thud with smoke and lost power, failure to shift into park, a water pump failure, and long waits for repair parts.

  • Fuel system2No crashes

A fractured rear axle that also damages the rear motor leaves one car needing a tow and major repair, even though both rear axles had already been replaced. The other report describes the charge port overheating during Level 2 charging at the advertised 48A rate. Charging stops and does not restart until the driver steps in, which can leave the car with little range. Only 2 complaints are on file.

  • Seat belts2No crashes

The front seat belts either fail to lock or the pretensioner tightens the belt for no reason while driving. In one case, the same fault code returned across three dealer visits in quick succession, starting near 7,122 miles, with no lasting fix. In another, a repair fixed one front belt while the other kept failing. Only 2 complaints are on file, but both describe repeat dealer visits without a fix.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints GV60 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
We drove ten miles to a local restaurant and after our meal the vehicle reported a 12-volt battery issue. After about a mile the car started to pull the car over as the battery was falling. As we were looking for a safe location to pull over, the car would no longer accelerate and would maintain 20 mph on a road that was 50 mph speed limit causing a very unsafe condition. We eventually found a safe location to pull over the car and had the car towed.

Electrical
Sometimes after starting the car the instrument panels remain black and will not display properly for several minutes or unless the car is shutdown for a long period of time and restarted. Additionally, Genesis uses a fingerprint scan to verify who is driving the vehicle. After verifying my fingerprint the vehicle now asks me for a password even though I already verified my biometrics.

Filed with NHTSA, November 2024

Transmission
Completed NHTSA recall 24V-868 at my dealer December 13th 2024. ICCU failed on 1/1/2025 and I am awaiting on the 3rd ICCU for my vehicle in less than 2 years. Similar issue happened December 2023, completed the ICCU recall and had the ICCU fail in a similar fashion.

Filed with NHTSA, January 2025

Transmission
Water pump failure in vehicle less than two years of age. Dealer stated car was not safe to drive. Instrument cluster had a warning light, the app had details of the failures, and the display in the vehicle had a pop up stating the car needed to be serviced TODAY!

Where the 2023 fits in the GV60's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2023 is the first model year of the GV60's first generation (2023 on). First years of a redesign often carry teething problems that Genesis fixes in later years, so the checks above matter more than usual.

Should you avoid the first year of a redesign? See the 45-car study.
