Which Edge is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2024 Ford Edge. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
2.0L 4-cylAWD23 mpg
2.7L 6-cylAWD21 mpg
  • The 2024 Ford Edge was sold in two versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Edge that averages well under the EPA 21 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Ford Edge, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical51 crash

The horn is described as too weak to hear over traffic, rain, or through closed windows, and one complaint links this to a crash. Other reports describe a driver's seat heater that burns an occupant badly enough for an emergency room visit. On highways, the dashboard goes dark with warning lights while the engine seems to cut out and restart. Owners also report a power hatch closing on people's heads and a Sync screen that freezes, goes black, or turns on functions by itself. Dealers often cannot reproduce these faults.

  • Backup camera41 crash

The rearview camera freezes, goes blank, or stays on screen after the driver shifts out of reverse. In one case a frozen image leads to a crash into a parked car while backing up. Failures start out intermittent and can become constant, and dealers sometimes cannot reproduce them. Most of these complaints are about a repair delay: owners say the part needed for the fix is not available yet, and several say the wait has gone on too long.

  • Transmission4No crashes

The transmission engages gears unexpectedly or refuses to engage them. Reports include the vehicle slipping into reverse by itself at low speed and hitting a garage door, and rolling forward on a hill after being shifted into reverse. Another warns that the gear will engage at low speed and blocks reverse until the car is restarted. One complaint describes shuddering and refusal to go into gear. These incidents happen in driveways and parking areas, where unintended movement can cause damage or injury. One report gives about 3,000 miles.

  • Airbags33 crashes

Crashes end without air bag deployment in all 3 reports here. In a multi-vehicle crash, the driver's front air bag stays folded and the driver suffers leg, back, neck, and abdomen injuries. Another complaint describes a low-speed impact on the passenger side that leaves the vehicle unrepairable with no air bags deployed. A third involves reported sudden acceleration into a storefront, with the forward collision warning also not activating. None of these reports identify a cause.

  • Seats3No crashes

The front head restraints tilt so far forward that they push the occupant's head toward the chest, and a dealer says this is how the seat is built. The driver's power seat motor grinds and vibrates when it moves, but the dealer finds no fault codes and makes no repair. In another report the rear bench seatback wiggles enough that the owner will not install a child seat on it. One of these problems appears at about 2,000 miles. None of the reports involves a crash.

  • Body and structure2No crashes

The hands-free liftgate closes on people while they load cargo, hitting heads, shoulders, and backs. Owners say the foot sensor is too sensitive and triggers when their feet stray under the bumper during loading. They also say the closing tone is too quiet to hear over outside noise. One complaint reports a bruise. When dealers check the sensors, they find nothing wrong. Owners worry that a child climbing into the cargo area could be seriously hurt.

  • Steering2No crashes

Power steering cuts out or the wheel locks, which makes the car very hard to turn. One failure happens on the expressway, with a steering warning and other alerts on the dash. The dealer calls it a software problem and resets the system. Another report describes the steering locking at intersections and nearly causing a crash. Both describe a sudden loss of steering assist while the car is moving, which is a clear loss-of-control risk.

  • Exterior lights2No crashes

The backup camera image is dim and unclear in daylight and at night, starting when the car is new. One report notes the problem at 850 miles. Another complaint describes the right rear taillight assembly falling out of the car on the interstate for no apparent reason. Neither report involves a crash, but a dim camera image makes reversing harder, especially after dark.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Edge owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
Warning lights came on, dashboard goes dark, engine felt to shut off and then restart especially when driving on interstate highways. Possible cause of serious injury or death. Dealer has not found problem, been to dealership 4 times in 5 months, over 70 days. Car has been inspected and nothing has been found to cause the problem. No advance warnings at time of all occurrences. First occurrence was in October 2025. My opion is an electrical issue.

Filed with NHTSA, March 2026

Transmission
Transmission failing less than 5,000 miles after having the transmission serviced at a dealership. Transmission shuddering and refusing to go into gear.

Filed with NHTSA, February 2026

Transmission
When put into reverse, a warning of "gear will engage at low speed" appeared multiple times. Car has to be shut down and restarted to allow for gear to engage.

Recalls to confirm (2)

Recall repairs are free at any Ford dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

  1. 26V124000Backup cameraMar 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and 2021-2024 Ford Edge vehicles. The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) may overheat and shutdown, which can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended.

Risk: A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: The APIM software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 13, 2026. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S09. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on March 5, 2026.

  2. 25V315000Backup cameraMay 2025

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, 2021-2024 Edge, 2022-2025 Escape, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, 2024 Ranger, Mustang, 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus, 2022-2024 Navigator, and 2023-2024 Corsair vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse.

Risk: A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. This will be a phased campaign, with the remedy becoming available in different phases based on model and model years. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on June 26, 2025. Additional letters will be mailed once the final remedy is available on each phase. Owner notification letters were sent on October 8, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S49.
