Which Camaro is it?

  • The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro was sold in three versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Camaro that averages well under the EPA 20 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Engine3No crashes

Rod bearing failure that ruins the engine is the most serious report, on a 6.2 engine at 14000 miles. Warranty coverage was denied in that case because of an engine computer calibration not done by a dealer. Another car sat at a dealer for 2 months waiting on a back-ordered valve body. Manual-transmission cars need both the clutch and brake pressed to restart, so a stall in an intersection means stopping fully before restarting, a real collision risk.

  • Airbags21 crash

Total nondeployment in a crash is the gravest report. No bags deployed in a total-loss collision at 1638 miles, the driver was injured, and a fault message appeared in the phone app only afterward. Separately, an intermittent air bag warning shows on the dash at 15300 miles, mostly after the car sits for a couple of days. Both complaints point to a safety system that may not be ready when needed.

  • Transmission2No crashes

Delayed shifts from first to second gear show up within weeks of purchase on an LS. Dealers could not reproduce the problem until a check engine light later set code P0700. The car sometimes fails to go into gear and stalls while driving, which creates a risk in traffic. The other complaint is not a failure. It describes a recall repair that cannot be completed because the part is unavailable, and the wait has run past a reasonable time.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Camaro owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Airbags
My Camaro ZL1 has 15300 miles an intermittently I’ll get an air malfunction warning on the DIC. It occurs mainly if I don’t drive the vehicle for a couple days. I have no idea if this is a legitimate concern or as electrical gremlin. I would think the air bag system is critical for safety and should be repaired under warranty

Recalls to confirm (1)

Recall repairs are free at any Chevrolet dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6, 2020-2021 CT4, CT5, and 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles equipped with a 10-speed transmission. The transmission may become damaged internally and cause the wheels to lock-up.

Risk: Wheel lock-up while driving increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install transmission control module monitoring software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 7, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N242480630.
