Worth adding to your 2020 checks

  • Check whether the car has the manual transmission, since the parking brake reports center on that version.
  • On a gentle slope, set the parking brake, shift to neutral, release the clutch, and see if the brake lets go.
  • Repeat the parking brake test right after a cold start and again after a drive.

Why these checks: what owners reported

  • Steering31 crash

Power steering fails suddenly at highway speed in these reports. The wheel shakes or vibrates, a steering malfunction warning appears, and the wheel becomes hard to turn or stops moving the wheels. Drivers have had to stop on the highway and tow the car. One failure came at 197 miles and was diagnosed as a bad power steering motor. A separate crash report with one injury describes the steering pulling right on its own during a left turn, sending the car over a curb into a tree. One owner was denied warranty coverage over engine modifications.

  • Engine3No crashes

Sudden loss of oil pressure is the main worry raised here. Two filings describe a plastic part inside the variable-displacement oil pump on the B58TU engine that can crack, most often during cold starts in low temperatures, with little warning before engine damage. Failed electronic oil level readings are cited as an early sign. A third report describes hard starting, an engine overheating message, hesitation at a stoplight, and a sudden lurch forward. A replacement starter did not stop it from returning.

  • Electrical3No crashes

Failures here vary rather than repeating. One report says the climate blend door or its actuator breaks, cutting heat to the driver's vents and the windshield defrost, which makes clearing a fogged windshield in winter difficult. Another describes a rear hatch that will not open with the electric button or the interior manual release. A third reports the instrument cluster going completely dark while driving, then returning with a reduced driver assistance warning. The dealer could not find the cause.
