Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • On a manual car, stall it on purpose in an empty lot, restart, and check whether acceleration is sharply reduced.
  • Plug in an OBD-II scanner and look for stored or pending code P2615.
  • Accelerate up a highway on-ramp and confirm the car reaches traffic speed without revving and failing to pick up.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Nissan Versa, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Automatic emergency braking21 crash

Automatic braking can engage when the driver doesn't expect it, and the forward collision warning light can come on in rain. Two complaints are on file, including one crash with one injury. In that crash, the car stopped suddenly and locked up partway through a left turn, leaving it in the path of an approaching vehicle. The other complaint describes a forward collision warning light and safety message at highway speed once rain began. The light went out when the rain stopped. Neither report mentions a dealer diagnosis or repair.

  • Engine2No crashes

Acceleration can fall off, and the car can lose power without warning. Two complaints describe this. One reports jerking and heavy vibration on cold starts, then weak acceleration after warm-up, with repeat dealer visits that have not found a cause. The other says the car would not go past 45 mph, went into limp mode with no warning lights, and then reset on its own. Losing power in traffic is a safety risk. Both problems appeared very early, at 13 miles and about 3,800 miles.
