Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Shift from reverse to drive several times at a stop and reject the car if engagement lags or ends in a thump.
  • Have a shop scan for stored CAN bus, engine control module, telematics, and headlamp voltage codes.
  • Run the infotainment system and look for "fatal error" messages or radio and screen glitches.

Which Charger is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Dodge Charger. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 308 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Dodge Charger, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical5No crashes

Sudden power loss leads these reports. Dashboards light up with warnings such as service electric system, regenerative battery system not available, and service transmission, and then the car shuts down or drops into a limited-power turtle mode. Regenerative braking can stop working afterward. Other cars won't start at times or get stuck in Park, sometimes after charging. One report describes both rear wheels glowing red with extreme heat, which suggests a fire risk. The trunk release can stop responding after 3 to 5 attempts. Dealers often say they can't duplicate the problem.

  • Brakes2No crashes

With the driver-assist system on, the car doesn't hold the brake after an automatic stop. On a hill it rolls backward with no warning while the system stays engaged, and one near-collision is reported. Separately, a "Braking System Required Attention" message comes on together with forward collision avoidance and electrical warnings, plus a failure to charge. Dealers fix the collision and electrical faults but can't find the cause of the brake message.
