Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Open each rear door with the truck on and confirm the dash door-ajar warning and the dome light both come on.
  • Ask whether a dealer repaired the rear door sensor wiring, especially on a WT trim.
  • Open and close the frunk several times, then confirm the truck drives normally with no limp mode warning.

Which Silverado EV is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 492 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical4No crashes

Screens freeze while driving. The infotainment display goes blank, then the instrument panel locks, so speed stops updating and turn signals quit working. The truck may refuse to power off, and the fault keeps coming back. Other reports describe repeated "Service High Voltage System" warnings tied to the battery heating and cooling system, an A/C compressor failure, and charging that stops near 65%. Failed telematics modules, which run OnStar and GPS navigation, also appear. Losing speed and signal displays on the road is the main safety risk.

  • Acceleration and cruise control2No crashes

Few reports here concern speed control itself. One describes One-Pedal Driving in Reverse: regenerative braking is weak or missing, so the truck keeps rolling after the driver lifts off the accelerator. Stopping takes the friction brake pedal, which runs against habits formed driving forward and raises collision risk in tight spaces. The other report is another OnStar module failure, with the replacement part on backorder and no repair date.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Silverado EV owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

System reset after plugging into charging station for a few minutes. Occurred multiple times over the last two weeks.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV work trucks. The pedestrian alert sound system may not produce sound at a sufficient volume. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.".

Risk: A vehicle that fails to make sufficient sound may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will update the software in the body control module (BCM), free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 22, 2025. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N242483530.
