Worth adding to your 2024 checks

  • Shift into reverse several times and confirm the camera appears promptly with guide lines, not hidden behind another screen.
  • Play music from a phone, then pull toward an obstacle and confirm the parking chimes sound over the audio.
  • Run the VIN for open recalls and ask for dealer records showing camera and fuel system campaigns completed.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Audi Q3, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical5No crashes

The center infotainment screen shuts down, shows a system reloading message, or goes black. Sometimes the radio cuts out with it for a few minutes. Repeat dealer visits and a screen replacement do not always fix it. The driver display also shows error messages that keep coming back, including parking brake, initialization loop, and antenna malfunction warnings. The antenna warning appears in reports of doors that fail to lock automatically or are found unlocked after locking with the fob. Other complaints describe the car restarting itself after shutoff, a failed SOS module on a new car, and a vent blowing warm air with a burning smell.

  • Brakes2No crashes

The inner rear brake pads wear out much faster than the outer pads. Owners say the wear sensors usually sit on the outer pads, so the inner pads can wear down to 1mm with no warning. They treat this as a safety issue. In one report, the inner pads needed replacement by 25,361 miles. A separate complaint describes loud grinding, worst after a cold start. Dealers blamed it on the car sitting unused or on coastal air and said it could not be fixed. There are only 2 complaints in this category.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Q3 owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Electrical
MmI screen malfunction, cuts out and goes black/blank. Red lines, dims by itself to black/blank. MMI screen replaced by Audi once, now problem continues. Antenna malfunction error message constantly. No addressment by Audi. Initializing error message on car, gets stuck in loop showing this message and will not go away. This is on display screen below steering wheel. SOS module failure at time of purchase, brand new car. Needed replacement.

Electrical
The dashboard screen which operates the radio, GPS and other programs will shut down and the screen will show: NOTE: SYSTEM RELAODING PLEASE WAIT. The radio will continue to play but you cannot operate it. Additionally, sometimes the screen goes completely blank and radio stops playing, usually comes back on in a couple minutes. I've had it to dealer three times but problem is still present.
