Worth adding to your 2022 checks

  • Run the VIN through the federal recall lookup and confirm no battery recall is still open.
  • Ask the seller for dealer paperwork showing the battery recall repair was actually completed.
  • Check the dash for a battery power reduced message or a reduced performance warning light.

Which e-tron GT is it?

EPA figures for each version of the 2022 Audi e-tron GT. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.

VersionDriveEPA rating
ElectricAWD238 mi range
  • With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 238 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2022 Audi e-tron GT, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Transmission5No crashes

The car shifts itself out of gear without driver input. It may drop into neutral or park at stoplights or just after selecting drive. Other reports describe a sudden loss of power with a drive system malfunction warning. In those cases the accelerator barely moves the car or does nothing, and restarting clears it only for a while. One car shut off while reversing and stopped hard. Repeat events after dealer visits are common. Losing power or stopping abruptly in traffic is a real crash risk.

  • Electrical3No crashes

The high-voltage cabin heater fails. That leaves the car with no heat in winter and windows that fog up. Owners say replacement parts are hard to get, and one car sat in the shop for 10 days. Several complaints are about repeat dealer visits for recall work, or waiting on parts that are not yet available for a recall repair. One early report describes the car shutting off or shifting into neutral at 237 miles, which ties into the drivetrain shifting problems.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints e-tron GT owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Transmission
CAR FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. Came to a stop light. Waited for light to change. Then when I pushed the accelerator nothing happened. No movement. Had to turn on emergency flashers, power down the car completely and restart it to move. Then functioned normally. Happened four times total. Car has already been at the dealer once and had some replacement parts done to fix the issue - but now it has occurred again and they are not sure why.

Filed with NHTSA, March 2022

Transmission
On Thursday August 4, 2022, after backing out of a space, I placed the vehicle in drive and the vehicle shifted uncommanded to neutral prior to being motion. My vehicle has shifted to neutral once and park twice previously. I reported this issue to Audi of Indianapolis in May 2022, but no technical remedy was provided.

Filed with NHTSA, August 2022

Electrical
The heater has failed. Dealer has diagnosed as high voltage heating unit failure. The issue is that this problem is occurring in many etron GTs and Porsche Taycans and there is no info from Audi as to when they will have replacement parts. No heat in the middle of winter, and the windows fog up, forcing you to drive with a window cracked open.

Where the 2022 fits in the e-tron GT's history

Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.

The 2022 is the second model year of the e-tron GT's first generation (2021–2023).

Audi updated the e-tron GT for 2024, so a 2022 does not have those changes.

What changed for 2024 (not on a 2022)
