Worth adding to your 2025 checks

  • Run the VIN through federal recall records and confirm Recalls 68C and 78C show as completed, not open.
  • On a 4xe, ask for dealer records showing the high-voltage battery passed the 68C procedure or was replaced.
  • Drive at highway speed over expansion joints and feel for front-end shaking that stops only when you slow down.

  • The 2025 Jeep Wrangler was sold in four versions. Confirm which one this is from the window sticker, the engine cover, or the VIN report before you compare prices.
  • On the plug-in hybrid, watch for the car moving off on electric power at low speed and for any hybrid system warning on the dash.
  • Reset the trip computer at the start of the drive. A Wrangler that averages well under the EPA 14 mpg combined on a mixed route may have an engine or tire problem.

Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2025 Jeep Wrangler, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Electrical271 crash

A high-voltage battery fire-risk recall, 68C / 25V-741, dominates these reports on the 4xe. Owners are told not to charge and to park away from structures, the remedy is often not available, and some dealers refuse to schedule the work. One fire report says charging after the recall repair burned out a home GFCI outlet. A second pattern is total power loss while driving: lights, instruments and brake lights go dead, sometimes after a start/stop warning or an over-the-air update. One crash report describes the vehicle accelerating from a stop in EV mode despite braking.

  • Transmission6No crashes

Sudden loss of power in traffic is the main failure. The vehicle shifts itself into park, shuts off, or will not restart, and warnings such as Service Hybrid Drive System appear. Several reports tie the failures to an October 2025 over-the-air Uconnect update that affected the hybrid control module. In some cases power steering and brake assist also drop out. Other owners describe jerking and jolting that continue through repeated dealer visits, and one failure followed repeated start/stop warning lights. One shift-to-park event occurred at 1300 miles.

  • Acceleration and cruise control31 crash

Unintended acceleration appears in 1 crash report. A light touch of the accelerator while parking sent the vehicle over a curb and into a wall, with no warning beforehand. The other reports describe repeated stalling at freeway speed. The dash tells the driver to shift into park and restart. One owner reports much lower hybrid battery range after an over-the-air update and has stopped driving the vehicle because of related stalling reports.

  • Fuel system2No crashes

Power cuts out without warning in the middle of acceleration, mostly while running on electric power. One owner has been left stuck in oncoming traffic more than once. The other report concerns fuel economy, with real-world results of 13 mpg combined against the 20 combined on the window sticker. With only two reports, neither problem shows a clear mileage pattern.

  • Engine2No crashes

Limp mode at highway speed is one failure here. A check engine light comes on with a "performance limited, service fuel system" message, and road speed drops. The dealer traced that case to the high-pressure fuel pump and a control module. The other report describes the hybrid system failing to communicate, which leaves shutting the car off at high speed as the only fix. Both failures cut power suddenly while the vehicle is moving.

  • Steering2No crashes

Power steering goes out because the whole vehicle shuts down while driving. Engine power is lost at the same time, and in one case the car stopped in an intersection. Warnings that the vehicle will shut off appear first, along with a check engine light, a blinking gear indicator and failed shifts. One shutdown happened within two weeks of delivery. These reports describe the same electrical and hybrid shutdowns seen in other categories, not a separate steering defect.
