Why these checks: what owners reported

NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Jeep Gladiator, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.

  • Steering3No crashes

Loss of steering control is the main concern. Reports describe violent shaking above 55 mph that makes the wheel hard to hold. Another describes a constant pull to the left at any speed that dealer alignments did not fix, and that report ends in a crash with injuries. One fire is filed here too. It started under the hood on the front passenger side minutes after the truck was parked, and no cause has been reported. Expect the pull or shaking to need repeat dealer visits.

  • Acceleration and cruise control2No crashes

Unexpected speed is the pattern here, with both reports at about 11,000 miles. One describes the truck failing to slow normally under firm braking at 45 mph with adaptive cruise control on. The other describes the truck accelerating on its own to about 25 mph when shifted into first gear, with no foot on the pedal and no warning light. Both create a collision risk. The dealer could not diagnose or repair the acceleration problem.

  • Electrical2No crashes

Alternator failure and infotainment errors are the two problems reported. The alternator failure happened at about 20,000 miles while driving. Steering went heavy, the check engine and battery lights came on, and the temperature gauge went to hot. The truck was towed and sat unrepaired because parts were not available. Separately, the Uconnect screen keeps showing a warning that blocks maps, apps, and the SOS system. The dealer linked it to the antenna, and the fix did not last.

In owners' own words

Excerpts from complaints Gladiator owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.

Steering
I parked at a business and went inside and within 5-10 minutes of being in the business my Gladiator caught fire on the front passenger side under the hood. I was ghosted by Jeep Wave and my only course of action was to go through State Farm. Jeep and State Farm both had fire investigators on the same day look at the gladiator and I have never heard what caused the fire.
