Which ZDX is it?
EPA figures for each version of the 2024 Acura ZDX. Use them to confirm you are looking at the version that was advertised, and as a yardstick on the test drive.
| Version | Drive | EPA rating |
|---|---|---|
| Electric | AWD, RWD | 304–313 mi range |
- With a full charge, the range estimate on the dash should land near the EPA figure of 304–313 miles. A much lower number on a mild day can mean a worn battery; ask for a battery health report.
Check the odometer against these mileages
Owners report these failures starting around the mileages below. A car inside one of these ranges deserves a closer look at that part, or records showing it was already fixed.
Service Brake Assist warnings
320–4,100 miles
Why these checks: what owners reported
NHTSA complaints for the 2024 Acura ZDX, grouped by the part owners named. Open a row to read what goes wrong.
Brakes13No crashes
Late or missing braking is the main complaint. Drivers describe the pedal sinking to the floor, the car lunging or sliding forward at low speed, and stops long enough to carry the car into intersections. Another group reports Service Brake Assist warnings that shut off Auto Hold and one-pedal driving, along with a clicking pedal, from as early as 320 miles. The car also brakes hard or sets the parking brake on its own, mostly in reverse. Dealers often find no stored codes and cannot reproduce the problem.
Electrical7No crashes
The failures vary widely. A failed drive motor inverter cooler sets off a high-voltage system warning, and the replacement part is on national backorder. Blown fuses, window faults, and lighting glitches are traced to a steering column bolt rubbing through a wiring bundle at 1,300 miles. Some cars show Service Brake Assist warnings that disable adaptive cruise and Super Cruise. Others report false emergency braking in traffic, doors that will not unlock with the remote, and a car that will not shift out of Park until it is restarted.
Automatic emergency braking7No crashes
The car slams to a sudden stop with nothing ahead, sometimes setting the parking brake. Reports cover city streets at 10 to 15 mph and freeway speeds, where one car stopped in a live lane for several seconds. People in the car describe neck and back pain, and drivers worry about being rear-ended. The same fault strikes in reverse, and rain running over the camera can block reversing. It appears early, at about 200 miles in one case. Dealers have not reproduced it, and some advise turning the system off.
Backup camera3No crashes
Reverse automatic emergency braking slams on the brakes with nothing behind the car, sometimes several times in one maneuver. The car then tells the driver to release the parking brake. That can leave it stopped across a street or driveway exit with traffic coming. The braking has also kicked in while backing out in the rain. Forward emergency braking has also cut speed sharply at about 40 mph with nothing ahead, which led one driver to switch the feature off.
Transmission21 crash
Two unrelated failures are reported. In one crash report, the car rolls backward after the driver selects Park and gets out, and it hits another vehicle. Nobody is hurt, but there is property damage. In the other case, both the driver display and the center screen go black at about 2000 miles. The menus offer no way to reset them, though the car can still be driven.
In owners' own words
Excerpts from complaints ZDX owners filed with NHTSA, as written. Listen for the same symptoms on your test drive.
When hard braking the car doesn’t stop, you can feel the wheels lock up and it slides forward. Some times when stopping at slow speeds the car will lunge forward. I almost hit a car, went in an intersection and one time almost hit a person and I was only going 5-10 mph that time and I hit the brakes and the car slid forward. I am really scared and Acura says they test drove mine and a new one and they both do it so there is nothing wrong with it.

2024 Acura ZDX Collision Mitigation Brake System will activate without warning engaging the parking brake. Has occurred intermittently while driving forward or in reverse. Dealership claims there are no codes and has advised that both front and rear systems should be disabled. Manufacturer states there are no software updates to address this issue. Failure milage approx. 100.

Was trying to unlock the vehicle but it wouldn’t unlock the doors with the remote. Had to crawl through the trunk to access the car. Got a “door latch system service” maintenance error on the screen after the dealership had “fixed” it. This is a huge safety concern as this car is electric and if it does not unlock from the inside, can cause the passengers to be stuck in the car.

My husband was driving on a small road and we were going about 25mph when he tapped the brakes the car jumped forward and the brakes did not catch. We lunged forward almost crashing into another car. No warning lights appeared. Driving conditions were normal, dry roads. Brought it into the dealership again for the same issue that we brought it in for less than 30 days ago.

Traveling 10-15 MPH on street when car immediately stopped/braked and message on screen said something like “forward brake assist applied” or something like that. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in front of me. Thank god there was no car immediately behind me or I would have been rear-ended

Car will not let me reverse. I have to turn it off to let me back out of driveway. When it rains the water runs down off camera and stops car.
Filed with NHTSA, January 2025
When reversing out of a parking spot, a driveway or around a corner, at random the vehicle will activate reverse automatic emergency braking for no reason. Sometimes multiple times in one maneuver. This is dangerous as it leaves you stopped in the middle of a street, particularly distressing when vehicles are coming and you have to take the extra time to take off the parking brake and continue the maneuver, hoping it doesn’t happen again.
Filed with NHTSA, February 2025
While moving about 40mph, the emergency brake engaged and it slowed car down significantly. However, there was nothing in front of me. I turned emergency braking off due to this issue. Also, during raining day, when backing out of driveway, car's emergency brakes engaged. This happen twice.

Where the 2024 fits in the ZDX's history
Redesigns and mid-cycle updates change what can go wrong.
The 2024 is the first model year of the ZDX's second generation (2024 on). First years of a redesign often carry teething problems that Acura fixes in later years, so the checks above matter more than usual.
Should you avoid the first year of a redesign? See the 45-car study.
Recalls to confirm (4)
Recall repairs are free at any Acura dealer, but the seller may never have had them done. Check each campaign number against the VIN.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 Acura ZDX and Prologue vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. Additionally, a software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays," 111, "Rear Visibility," and 305, "Electric-Powered Vehicles.".
Risk: An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash or injury. Additionally, the loss of the rearview camera image can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Fix: Dealers will update the vehicle radio control module software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 22, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are TNL and XNK. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning March 4, 2026.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 Acura ZDX vehicles. The passenger-side front stabilizer bar bracket bolts may have been improperly tightened, which can allow the bolts to loosen and separate from the vehicle frame. A detached stabilizer bar or bracket can damage the vehicle's high voltage cables or EV battery coolant lines.
Risk: Damaged cables or coolant lines can result in a vehicle shutdown, causing a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts, and repair the stabilizer bar and bracket, high voltage cables, and EV battery coolant lines as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 30, 2025. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is SLH.
